Welcome, everyone, to the LFW webteam list. Thanks for pitching in! This is the first of (probably) weekly updates on site progress.
Since this is the first message to the list, I'd like to review some stuff. We have two goals for the site:
1. to help surface what's happening at the intersection of education+the open web
2. to encourage the post-Festival momentum of projects and people
In doing so, we want to stay light+agile.
Drumbeat.org is relaunching in a few weeks so we're not reinventing the wheel. We're creating a small, new corner on the web and seeing where it goes.
Project management
The site is using Wordpress+some hacks. How do we want to collaborate?
On one end of the spectrum, we could bundle the code, create a git, and use revisioning and bug tracking—i.e., use best practices, like you're supposed to.
On the other end, we could give everyone permissions, do regular backups, and work piecemeal. This gives most developers heartburn.
I suspect we'll want to fall somewhere between these two ways of working. Any thoughts?
In the meantime, raise your hand if you want admin permissions.
Cheers,
Ben
