Data Cloud Solutions to Enhance Business Productivity

These days there is a lot of talk about taking your business “to the cloud” for data mobility and backup solutions. Technology giants like Microsoft, Google and IBM have all announced cloud solutions for business continuity. So what is a data cloud and how can it benefit your business?

Cloud computing is the newest buzz in the world of computers and the Internet. The first thing to understand about this technology is that a cloud is essentially a floating server that holds information that can be accessed from any computer and not just on a personal hard drive. No need to worry about a system crash, a fried hard drive, or overloading a hard drive.

How does cloud computing work? The cloud server and data storage system is located in a real place but is termed ‘virtual’ because it is software defined, which means it has the ability to increase or decrease resources and capacity at will. Like any other hardware solution, it can be accessed from any computer, anywhere, any time. These data centers can store any information needed, whether it is video, audio, files, or images. These data centers are often run by large companies that allow the business consumer to store this information on their system, saving the businesses from constant updates and giving them the ability to run highly technical programs with little effort.

Local technology group, Abacus Data Exchange, has launched a cloud computing solution that will bring Lafayette’s innovative technology community to a new level. The Abacus Data Cloud solution enables users across multiple broadband provider platforms to access the 100 Mbps network to create solutions and applications that would otherwise be hindered by limited or costly access to the Internet. The Abacus Data Cloud allows usability of software, servers and storage resources over any network. It increases network uptime, improves disaster prevention with reliable backups and server duplication; and gives better mobility and remote access.   For a business, the Abacus Data Cloud means long term reduction of software and computer costs as well as improved data security with secure off site back up and storage.

Along with the security, back up and storage benefits, the Abacus Data Cloud can enhance functionality and customer service with hosted business applications. Applications for customer relationship management, human resources management, document management, email, websites and blogs, accounting, appointment scheduling, portals and intranet, email campaigns, and project management are all hosted within the cloud to make information easily accessible to business owners, employees, vendors, or customers who have been granted admittance.

 About Abacus Data Exchange
Abacus Marketing Resources, LLC has been in business since 2005 serving broadband solutions to local businesses. Inspired by Lafayette's commitment to deploying a full fiber network and excited by the opportunity to help businesses take greater advantage of online opportunities, Abacus made the bold decision to leverage leading-edge elastic computing to open the Abacus Data Exchange. Abacus Data Exchange was created as an alternative ‘green’ data center using hosted virtualized infrastructure-as-a-service. In February of 2010 Abacus advanced their services to provide public virtualized infrastructure-as-a-service; often referred to as ‘cloud computing’.
