Hi all,
First up is this event which is happening on 19th.
http://punetech.com/copyrights-and-patents-for-startups-pocc-event-sept-19th/

Please use the event to know and expand more knowledge on the subject
all those who wish to do for the same.

The second is this interesting news which came on yesterday's Hindu.

"RTI activists fear move to dilute open e-governance"

http://beta.thehindu.com/news/national/article19677.ece

The other point is that there should be both .pdf's as well as .odf's
of the articles at

http://www.lokayat.org.in/downloads

For .odf there should be a shortlink for openoffice.org . There is
also a need to make an .odp viewer which is small and does the job as
well.

This should be commented on the page as well as not everybody is going
to download 150 MB of Oo.o to see a 3.3 MiB of file.

Agree with you in principle.

But, not all of the files that have been put up were made  using Openoffice.

Most of the Lokayat activists, who write the stuff on various social issues are not techies and did not have exposure to Linux before. In fact, I believe very few have been. I guess many files are originally pagemaker files, as the typesetting was done by some "professionals" hired to do this.s you would be knowing allmost-all professionals use core/adobe software. It will take non-techie lokayat activists some time to ramp up on Linux and start using the tools.

I understand that. What I am saying is going forward use openoffice.org

While I do advocate about using GNU/Linux in this instance I am
advocating a FOSS product. They could use either openoffice.org (which
runs on MS-Windows) or Abiword and gnumeric (both of which are also
available on MS-Windows) and both less or more support the .odt and
.ods formats.

Lemme repeat I'm not asking them to have familiarity with GNU/Linux
right now, even if they have familiarity with FOSS tools on MS-Windows
that is good enough as a first step.

Once they are familiar to the tools and hence the workflows shifting
them to a freer Operating System is easier.
