The tutorials have a lot of information about inserting symbols into drawings and how to create catalog parts from symbols, however I cannot find out how to insert a catalog component into a drawing after it is created. I can browse the catalog and find the part, just don't know how to select it and get it into the drawing (when I click on it it opens the catalog part in a new tab). Please point me to the video that shows how to do this or provide the steps.

Thanks for that link. So, to pull in a fully defined catalog part, you first pull in the symbol/block it was made from, then "assign the catalog number" (3:00-3:25 in the video)? Seems like you would have to know exactly what symbol/block was used whenever the catalog part was originally created. I tested this on a motor where I created a 4-pole motor from a symbol/block and saved it as a catalog part. Then when putting a new one into drawing, I chose the wrong motor symbol and assigned the catalog part. Now it is not the same part representation as the original because the symbol I chose was wrong.

We thought about implementing such a feature, and then realised the problem is the same, except reversed: once you select a part from the catalogue, how does SkyCAD decided which symbol to use from the library to represent it? So there would be a need to define a 'default' symbol for every part, which is an extra customisation step. Thus we decided to stick with the concept of inserting a symbol, and assign the part-number afterwards.

And you are right to point out a user can select a 'wrong' part for a given symbol, but we do have a project where the structure of the selected part must match the symbol(s). This will be implemented in a future version.

I had similar problem once. What worked out for me was to delete all ports and and explode block, then create a new block and recreate new plant element. It's a little more work but it might work for you.

We spoke privately, but i think its benificial to post here too. For updating the models in the catalogs, one way to get around the unability to save is to duplicate that component and then replace the model. Also it will help going forward to place your custom content in a very easily located place, navigate shared content there, or for your case, place it in the AutoCAD Plant 3D content directory. Again, sorry to hear you are dealing with a lack of information and know how.

Now you may re-insert the family into spec to get the new part update, however this new part is a completely different part then the original in the database, it will have a new ID, therefore you can't update the part in other projects, you will needs to re-insert the new part.

Also if you replace the family in the spec to get the updated part I think you will get warnings in projects that are using that spec that the spec has been updated (plantspecupdatecheck cmd to force check) and the part will not be found, opening a dialog box just above command line with check boxes to select the part to be updated that won't work, never go away, and dialog box keeps returning while working.

I know that one problem that can force this update to part not to work is the directory structure of a catalog.. for instance creating the catalog one directory above the Shared Content Catalog folder set in PLANTMODIFYSHAREDCONTENTFOLDER variable (with admin rights), but I think the problem I have this time is a different one

I had this problem in 2015 and now again in 2017. It looks like, that de program is not saving a dwg in the DWG map. There is a png in the 200 map, but not a dwg in the DWG map. We have tested it, with a completely cleaned catalog, with nothing in it.

For example, we did copy an item from one catalog to another and the dwg doesn't show up. If I want to replace it, the program won't save it. It looks like, that if there is no dwg in the DWG map, you also can't save a replacement.

Enter the King part number to the quick search module , other manufacturer number or OE number. This will pull up any part containing the series of numbers you entered. Click on the blue link for details.

In addition to Andy's response I also wanted to add that while this is not currently available in Fusion 360, GrabCAD offers thousands of free models, including a wide range of standardized nuts and bolts.

Its also probably worth noting we are working with third party companies that are part suppliers to integrate into Fusion 360. We would like to make it easy for them to integrate their catalog and let users easily drop in parts. We don't have a time frame for the first one but it's in the works.

+1 for the concept of integrating access to third party content as opposed to bulking Fusion up with a generic parts library. However it would be great if the dashboard interface were such that we could build, sort, and organize our own parts libraries.
