Class scheduling at NPS is based on student demand. Every student registered in a class must be scheduled into that class, together with the assigned instructor for the class, and without any conflicted classes. The task of producing an equitable and efficient schedule every quarter is complex. It requires balancing the priorities and needs of all academic units within the context of shared university resources that are in high demand and often scarce. In developing the schedule, the following goals must be balanced:
The priorities a master school schedule represents, whether explicit or implicit, are critical aspects of defining how learning takes place in the school. Setting explicit priorities, and expressing their relative importance, is therefore one of the most critical steps of developing a strategic schedule.
All incoming freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors must enter their course requests online, via the Genesis portal, during the scheduling window. Students and parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to enter their course requests as early in the scheduling window as possible. The portal to register for courses for the 2024 - 2025 school year will open February 26 - March 8. Important information about scheduling can be found below for future reference which includes instructions on how to make requests through Genesis.
Randolph High School follows academic procedures and processes outlined in the Curriculum Handbook. The handbook contains Randolph High School's academic procedures such as grading, scheduling, course change and withdrawal policies, GPA calculation, honor roll criteria, selective service information, graduation requirements, valedictorian and salutatorian selection criteria and more.
During the scheduling window, all students and their parents/guardians will be asked to select courses for the upcoming school year. Please remember that all student requests will be reviewed by the school counselors and the counselors will meet with their students to review and discuss course requests, future plans, academic pathways and rigor, graduation and post high school requirements.
Teachers make recommendations for the appropriate courses and levels for each of their students and all teachers are required to discuss these recommendations with each student. Your child's teacher's recommendations will be visible during the course selection process. When choosing courses, parents/guardians are encouraged to follow the recommendation of the current classroom teacher.
Academic Waivers have a deadline and those received after that date may not be honored. An Academic Waiver is required for all students seeking to enroll in a course level that they were not recommended for by their current teacher. Please remember that the waiver MUST be submitted to the school counseling department.
This Course Catalog is developed each year to provide students and families the necessary information for making sound choices in course selection. It provides descriptions of courses, credit values, prerequisites, and relevant recommendations to help students make appropriate course selections.
In the Course Catalog you can find recommended sequences for courses within each subject area, work pages for drafting a Four-Year Plan of Studies, athletic eligibility, scholarships, graduation requirements and other related topics.
It is crucial that each family give careful consideration to the courses a student takes in high school to prepare for post-secondary education and/or the world of work. Please take the time to ask questions of our professional staff to make the best, most informed decisions.
Course routes for each subject are displayed in the tabs under their subject name. Each of these routes charts the four-year progression of classes in each subject to help explain how courses for the next year are selected.
Below are the graduation requirements. Three credits is one year of classes. We have included the entry requirement for any class that requires approval to help in your course selection. If you have any questions about the course progression, please contact either Dr. Campbell at scam...@lausanneschool.com or the department chair.
All of the classes except the Art or Design course are assigned to students. The 10th grade schedule is designed so that students will be able to be a full DP student regardless of their class enrollments as long as the student earns good grades. However, the 10th grade course selection may help decide which courses the student may choose in the Diploma Programme. Some DP courses have prerequisites. Students are encouraged to make sure they are looking at possible DP course selection prerequisites while choosing their sophomore classes to make sure their preferred options are available to them.
If a rising junior is signing up for the full IB Diploma Programme, they must choose three or four HL classes (no more than four) and the Theory of Knowledge class. All students considering the IB program must meet with the DP Coordinator to discuss the program.
Students who aspire to attend the most highly selective colleges (schools with a less a 15% acceptance rate) will need to plan to take the most challenging course load possible, including the IB Diploma Programme and maintain the highest grades in those courses. Students who wish to study engineering and STEM fields need to make sure they are taking the highest level of math available and completing Physics at the highest level.
College advisors will meet with all students each year before course selection to discuss options and answer any questions. If you have any questions, please contact DeKitra Durant at ddu...@lausanneschool.com.
If you will be a junior or senior next year and wish to take a CTE class, you'll need to complete the application that will be open from December 8th through February 16th. If you wish to take more than 1 CTE class, you will need to complete a separate application for each CTE class you wish to take.
The National Honor Society (NHS) provides a tutoring program for any high school student who is struggling academically. Tutoring will be primarily run by Junior and Senior students from NHS with the help of a High School administrator. The purpose of this tutoring is to give students who are struggling the opportunity to get focused help from role model students. Please contact Mr. Zach Ornelas, advisor for NHS, at orne...@salineschools.org or (734) 401-4254 to make arrangements.
