Hello all: For those of you who have been following the efforts to stop expansion of private jet infrastructure at Hanscom's Northfield, there was news this week as the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act Office (MEPA) rejected the developer's draft environmental impact report (DEIR). They are now required to submit a supplemental report that addresses the many inconsistencies and debatable claims made in the DEIR. The story is covered on the front page of
today's Boston Globe. I haven't read the full decision (see decision and attachments
here), but the first few pages of the letter by Rebecca Tepper, Secretary of Environmental Affairs, make clear that the large number of comments finding flaws with the applicant's claims had hit home. This is a bump in the road and doesn't kill the project, but the delay will hopefully give opponents more time to force attention on the actual environmental impact of private jet travel.
