There are a lot of posts and information encouraging town meeting to vote for and against Article 8. Because I was wondering what residents thought, I sent a one question survey to my neighborhood’s (Liberty Heights) Google Group.
I thought very carefully about what the question should be. The motion and description for Article 8 focus on delaying the MSBA filing because of uncertainty about future enrollment from the the MBTA overlay districts. The slide deck for Article 8 and the community forum I attended focused almost exclusively on preserving the fields in the center athletic complex during construction.
The question I asked in the survey was:
Would you be willing to give up all or some of the fields at the Center Athletic Complex for a period of time to support the construction of the new high school?
The question was presented as Yes/No. A yes vote indicates the person is willing to give up some or all of the athletic fields to support construction.
There are 281 members in the Google Group.
As of this writing, there are 48 responses (17% of members). There are 41 Yes votes (85.5% of responses) and 7 No votes (14.5% of responses). Percentages are rounded.
This is a link to the spread sheet that has all of the responses, including comments. I am not an expert on Google Sheets. You may need a gmail account to see the spreadsheet.
