Greetings,

There many distributed support activities and groups forming around
the XO and likely to much, much more as laptops arrive around the
world for kids.

I had been keen on the educational concepts and nature of OLPC so I
also joined as a community support volunteer. As many of you know,
tech and end user support is a tricky task. [ I respond to messages
sent to help at laptop.org ]

However beyond my email support for OLPC, I would be glad to see I
can offer some bridge ideas from time to time for LEXO.

A great deal of collaborative work continues to go into the support
wiki at OLPC. Maybe it could be listed at LEXO under Manual:

The XO had sat unused for months. When we got it out and charged it
up yesterday, the screen remained entirely blank. Has anyone else
experienced this? After reading a lot of stuff online, we now know how
to remove the LCD screen and (in theory) how to solder a connection
between the XO to another machine in order to use a different monitor,
but no easy fix. Can one in fact buy a new screen?
Thanks for any help.

Laura,

I volunteer for OLPC.

It is likely that your XO lost charge on its internal battery which
now prevents the display from functioning.

Here's some details on the 'fix clock' issue, see:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Fix_Clock

There are volunteer repair centers that can more fully assess and
repair your XO for nominal charges and you pay shipping, see:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Directory_of_repair_centers

I have a serial adapter for this repair and perhaps I can help.

Sandy
