For those of you using 2010 Revit, how are you finding the "ribbon
interface"? There has been a good deal of backlash against it from
it's introduction but Autodesk has supported it saying that it is
easier to use than the previous interface which used the design bar on
the left side. I personally don't see much of a performance boost...
is anyone else finding it easier or more difficult? On a broader
note, how does everyone feel about the regular interface changes that
Autodesk introduces in many of it's products?

Not bad once you get use to it. I still get lost sometimes switching
back and forth between 2009 and 2010.

Kelly,

Just to get my opinion in on this topic. I personally find the ribbon
bar somewhat of a drawback to production. This is because our tools
were mostly on a single screen befor that could be adjusted to our
specific needs. Now there really is not a good way to customize the
tool bar for our individual production needs.

I have task based ribbon bars that are showing up on other software
interfaces also, and I am finding the same counter productive problems
as with the Revit 2010 interface. Over all I believe that the task
based interface is a good idea, but we as companies have to be able to
customize the interface for our individual productivity needs instead
of being forced to use an interface the is unproductive and fixed in
layout by the software developer.

Autocad has always had the ability of full customization until these
task based interfaces showed up in the task bar so that all necessary
tools could be displayed on a single screen or tablet. That is what
helped our company be productive, not the hunt and peck cenario that
we now find with the task bar.

Sincerely,

I did some digging and found the technique for reverting the Revit
2010 user interface to the 2009 Revit interface. Autodesk swore that
there was no way to do this for a long time but a few dedicated
Reviteers discovered the technique and now Autodesk has posted it. Be
forewarned, Autodesk does not support the changed UI. It is, however,
easy to change back should problems arise. The link to the Autodesk
page explaining the process is here:

I'll be attempting the switch tomorrow. If I run into anything I'll
let you all know.

If you are feeling especially geeky, you can purchase a T-shirt
proclaiming your distaste for the new ribbon UI. Perhaps I'll get one
to wear at AU in December...?
