Good afternoon everyone!

I'm sending along the Union Park newsletter, full of good information! Scroll down to the third story and follow the link to take the survey about the three bridges over I-94 in Lex-Ham. (This is the same survey people filled out at our Better Bridges Bash on April 25th.)
Please take a few minutes to share your ideas and dreams for our bridges. The feedback from the community is passed along to city, county and state folks who make decisions about our roads and bridges!
And... if you take the survey, you will be entered into a drawing for one of several $50 gift certificates to local businesses. The survey will be open until June 30th!
Thanks!

Join us for free pizza and drinks at the
Snelling Open House at 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday, June 2

We're co-hosting an open house about the future of Snelling Avenue at 6:00 p.m. on June 2 at the Dunning Rec Center (1221 Marshall Ave).

Enjoy free pizza and drinks, see depictions of how the Snelling Avenue bridge will actually look after construction, learn about the community’s long-term ideas for Snelling, and discover ways that you can get involved in community visioning and action in the area.

Friendly Streets will be presenting some creative ideas for next steps to celebrate and enhance the new bridge and improve access and wayfinding in the area.  MnDOT representatives will be on-hand to talk about the project. This event is made possible by the District Councils Collaborative and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Center for Prevention.

Tell Us Your Opinion at the Merriam Park Library

Stop by the Union Park table at the Merriam Park Library during library hours and share your priorities for our Union Park neighborhood community.  Have your voices heard as we plan for the next ten years!

How can we improve the bridges over I-94?

The Better Bridges Project needs your ideas to help create a community-led vision for the future of our bridges over I-94 in Saint Paul!  Their online survey currently addresses the Lexington and Hamline bridges over the freeway, and also includes a chance to share your input on how to celebrate and further enhance the area around the new bike/pedestrian bridge at Griggs Street.

Survey participants will be entered into a drawing for one of several $50 gift certificate to local businesses! The survey will be open until June 30.

Snelling Construction Update

The Snelling project is moving along on schedule. Weather permitting, the curb and sidewalk work south of the bridge should be done by the end of June.

NEW CLOSURES:

  • Starting next Wednesday, June 3, Snelling Avenue between I-94 and University will be completely closed (until the end of June). St. Anthony Street across Snelling will remain open, and you'll be able to get on westbound I-94 from St. Anthony (using Pascal to get there).
  • Also starting next Wednesday, if you're traveling westbound on I-94, you will not be able to exit off to Snelling.  Lexington and Cretin Avenues are your alternatives.
  • Expect lane closures along Snelling between Concordia and Selby later in June for the mill and overlay (surface replacement) part of the project.
If you have questions or issues related to the project, contact Kevin Walker at 651-234-7509 or kevin....@state.mn.us

City-wide Cleanup Season!

The season's first city-wide cleanup is this Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington Tech Magnet High School, 1465 Rice Street.  Get rid of that stuff you've been collecting all winter!  Check out the city's site for details on what you can drop off and the related costs.

Want to help out with the clean-up?  They're still signing up volunteers! Contact the District 6 Planning Council at

Knight Green Line Challenge

For the second year in a row, the Knight Green Line Challenge is seeking ideas from innovators to build a more successful Saint Paul.  Any individual or organization can submit a project idea. There are just two rules:
  1. Proposed projects must take place in and benefit at least one of six St. Paul neighborhoods along the Green Line, including Union Park.
  2. Ideas must tap into the potential of the Green Line to create impact in one or more of these three key areas:
    • Exciting current residents and attracting newcomers to the Central Corridor
    • Expanding economic opportunity and breaking down divides
    • Strengthening a culture of civic engagement
From June 10 to July 10, submit your project idea at knightgreenlinechallenge.org. If you have questions, plan on attending one of two community Q&A sessions on June 11th and 12th, or contact the Knight Foundation at in...@knightgreenlinechallenge.org or 651-800-1807. Sign up for the newsletter and find more information online

Saint Paul is seeking your input on the downtown bike loop plan

St. Paul has created an online survey to gather your input on the downtown bike loop plan. The survey is now up and available through Sunday, May 31st.

You are also invited to the upcoming Design Workshop on the loop on Thursday, June 11th at 5:00pm in the lower level conference center in the Metro Square building at 121 East 7th Place.

Organized Trash Collection

The Macalester-Groveland Community Council, with the support of the MN Pollution Control Agency, has been hosting a series of community conversations about our trash hauling system in Saint Paul.

There is one more community conversation on Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Hamline Midway Library (1558 W Minnehaha Ave).

You can also take their brief survey before June 7 to share your thoughts about trash collection in the city.  Visit macgrove.org/trash to take a 5 minute survey and be entered in a drawing to win a $50 Mississippi Market gift card.

The Macalester-Groveland Community Council is pursuing this study on behalf of all Saint Paul residents.
