This Monday, January 21, 2008
You are invited to join us Monday, January 21st from 9am-12pm for a
garden work party at Lewis. We will be pruning the four apple trees,
updating the greenhouse, weeding, and doing regular garden
maintenance.  Also, we are looking for someone with carpentry
experience who could frame in some simple planting tables and shelving
to get the greenhouse organized and more usable.  Please contact me if
this is something you could help us with, on the 21st or any day that
is convenient.

Thank You!

-->Should schools be repaired, renovated or replaced?
Community members are encouraged to attend one or more of four January
meetings in different quadrants of the city to give input on options
for repairing, remodeling and/or rebuilding Portland Public School
buildings.
Sessions will be held Jan. 15 at Jefferson High School (north
clusters), Jan. 16 at Wilson High School (west clusters), Jan. 22 at
Madison High School (northeast clusters) and Jan. 23 at Franklin High
School (southeast clusters). The meetings will be held from 7-9:30
p.m.
At the meetings, consultants will present findings from their
analysis of the physical conditions and educational suitability of
each school in that quadrant. They also will summarize public input on
building priorities captured at community meetings in May and
November.
Based on those findings, the consultants will present options for
repairing, renovating or replacing each school, and the costs of each
option. Community members can ask questions and give feedback on the
options. Visit www.reshape.pps.k12.or.us to preview options under
consideration.
Child care and translation in Vietnamese, Spanish, Mandarin and
Russian will be available at each meeting.
Following the meetings, district staff will work with the consultants
to develop a draft plan, which will be presented to the school board
in March. Public input sessions on the draft plan will be held in
April. The board is scheduled to adopt a final facilities plan in May.

-->Inclement Weather & Emergency Closures
When school closure decisions are made, the district instantly
publishes the information through their web site at:

Television and radio stations get their information from this
service, but sometimes their broadcast of updates is delayed. If you
have internet access, the link above is the first place you should
check for weather-related closure information. The site is available
24 hours a day. This information can also be reached from our web
site, http://lewiselementary.org
