Drum Circle

This Sunday, December 6 at UUFS at 6:00 PM. A drum circle unites people of all ages through rhythm of collective consciousness.

Drum circles have developed into three main types: "culturally specific", such as Middle Eastern or West African groups, "facilitated circles" with drums from any culture, and "anarchic" circles - improvised communal drumming with no designated musical leader.

Bring a drum or other percussion instrument or just come for the experience. Percussion instruments include but are not limited to hand drums such as djembes, bongos, doumbeks, tablas, tambourines, shakers, frogs, sticks, cymbols, even bells! Instruments are recommended but not required.

This is a free event, donations to the UU are appreciated.  Join the group to stay connected at http://groups.google.com/group/sbydrummers.

Sure, I got it from wikipedia when I typed in drum circle. There is also a great quote from Mikey Hart of Greatfull Dead

"Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together."

Whats the event? I might like to attend!

I would love for you to lead on of our circles- perhaps 6pm Sunday, March 7. Last night there were only a few people but if we give it some time and promotion it will be a hit. I love the way you lead the circle
