Hello,

Talking with a friend about devices resembling the electro-theremin (AKA tannerin)...

I know of the Therevox (too expensive for me),  the Korg monotron (too small, I have one),
and the Gakken Sx-150 (too... toyish, I also have one)
but it would be great to have a cheap electro-theremin around to have some fun with.

So the question is:
Is it possible to buy something similar to a cheap electro-theremin nowadays anywhere,
apart from those devices ?

Thank you very much

Óscar

Oscar,

Have you considered an EOWAVE Mini Lofi Synth? It currently retails for 199 euros, but you might be able to pick up a used model on ebay if you keep your eye out.

The problem with any of these things is that if your budget is limited you are liable to end up with a toy that will not satisfy your musical needs.

Thank you peter, I didn't know about this one. It seems to sound fine by itself.

I am willing to get more a slider thingy  than a ribbon one, but I will definetively
look for it as you say.

Any other cheap (but playable) electro-theremin alternatives you people might know?

Thank you

Oscar, I could build one for you. Let me know what you expect from it in terms of pitch range and timbre(s), then we may discuss.

Thank you Thierry. Not now, buy maybe in a future.
I was trying to know  if are there any ready-made thingy (or in a  kit)
rather than a custom made one.

I suppose by the moment I just want to stick to toys,
so talking about the sx-150 I will try to make something like this:

I just found this project:

Both using the sx-150. Not very musical (in fact horrible sounding)
but both fun for effects together with pedal boards.

Maybe I will try also to buy a cheap old audio oscillator and see what it is capable of by itself.

I have relalized the first URL from my last message should habe been more specific:

has answered me to send me the details of his compact electro-theremin in a box using the sx-150.

By other way, I also found this "Ondes Martenot" using the Monotron so- called "Monotrondes".
It really seems easy to build and better sounding:

Both ways I will destroy my toy synths to build them, but that's part of the fun,
they are not expensive, and they are still on production son they can be replaced ;)
