Over the weekend Pope Francis came to Philadelphia and was accorded the most royal treatment I have ever seen.
While he was seated on the throne erected for him, a series of entertainments were provided including singers and famous well-wishers.
I wondered what he would have thought if a thereminist were one of the performers and played a heart-felt arrangement of Ave Maria?
His comments in the speech he gave after the gala concerning this musical interlude, in front of the vast multitude, would be very interesting indeed.

Maybe no one played the theremin LIVE for the pope, but here is a theremin performance lovingly dedicated to Pope Francis (Papa Francisco) that was posted to YT by one of his devoted followers.

On second thought, maybe it’s just as well no one attempted to play live for the pope in Philly. This performance would have sent the old boy scurrying back to Rome for sure!  😝

I thought some thereminist did actually perform for him with an instrumental group:

Richard, and all:
The concert for the Pope you referred to never took place.
That is sad, as the Divine Hand group are very fine musicians with several videos available on YouTube..

Too bad. I was really looking forward to seeing a video of this. I actually went into the outskirts of Philly this weekend. I can't believe they closed the Ben Franklin Bridge for three days! That would not happen for anyone else in the world.
