Withthe spin-off prequel "A Quiet Place: Day One" finally hitting theaters, we're counting down the days until "A Quiet Place 3." Set in a world invaded by terrifying alien creatures with an acute sense of hearing, the next entry in the series may continue the story with Emily Blunt as the lead. However, it's unclear if John Krasinski will return to direct the next installment of the franchise he helped originate.

Then again, the project could introduce new characters in a different location, still under siege from the same breed of marauding predators from the OG films. But, really, the jury is currently still out on what to expect.

While "A Quiet Place 3" was originally scheduled to release sometime in 2025, it has since been delayed indefinitely. Exactly why it's been delayed remains unclear, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates.

The franchise's first spinoff, "A Quiet Place: Day One" made it theatrical debut on June 28 and stars a brand-new cast of characters. The first official trailer debuted in February, followed by a more in-depth trailer (which you can check out below) in May.

With a new story developed by Krasinski and "Day One" writer-director Michael Sarnoski, this movie takes us back to the first chaotic moments following the alien invasion. It's something we got a brief glimpse of in the opening flashback sequence of "A Quiet Place: Part II," but "Day One" is expected to explore the fallout more in-depth and give us an idea of how people survived in those early days before the aliens' sensitivities to sound was as well understood.

No date has been set for "A Quiet Place: Day One's" streaming debut, but it's expected to arrive on Paramount Plus sometime in August or September 2024, roughly two or three months after its theatrical release.

"A Quiet Place 3" does not yet have a release date. Back in 2022, Paramount Plus revealed it was targeting a 2025 release window. Paramount Plus tweeted at the time: "The next installment of @quietplacemovie is coming next year & will be directed by Michael Sarnoski. And, #AQuietPlace Part III is coming in 2025."

It's possible that the main players of "A Quiet Place 2" return: Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott, Millicent Simmonds as Regan Abbott, and Noah Jupe as Marcus Abbott. A flashback cameo may be made by John Krasinski as Lee Abbott.

As we said before, Djimon Hounsou, who appeared in "A Quiet Place Part II" as the unnamed leader of a small island colony of survivors, has been confirmed to reprise his role. In the second film, his character alludes to certain things that happened in New York City on the day the aliens invaded, and "Day One" director Sarnoski told Entertainment Weekly the film will explore some of those events and flesh out his origin story. And yes, we will finally learn his name.

"A Quiet Place 2" focused on Regan Abbott's quest to find the source of a mysterious radio signal, which played "Beyond the Sea" on a strange loop. She finds an island that is actually a safe haven for humans as the aliens cannot swim; the National Guard rounded up people in the early days of the apocalyptic invasion to safely stow them away from the monsters. Except a monster does eventually arrive, because of course it does.

At long last, Paramount Pictures gave the world its first look at the upcoming horror movie in February 2024 with the release of the A Quiet Place: Day One trailer, and the wait was definitely worth it. Though it's rather short (90 seconds) and spends a portion of that time showing events from the first two movies in the franchise, we were able to see some incredible footage of the alien invasions that was both horrifying and exhilarating.

The trailer mostly follows Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn's characters as they, along with a cat, attempt to survive the initial invasion by the alien monsters that later force the last remnants of humanity to live in near or complete silence. However, we do see Djimon Hounsou's "Man on the Island," who is introduced months before his character shows up in A Quiet Place Part II.

Though there hasn't been a whole in terms of information about A Quiet Place: Day One when it comes to the prequel's plot, we do know that the upcoming movie will take place nearly 500 days after the events of its 2021 predecessor and will show how the extraterrestrial monsters first pushed humanity to the point of extinction. The caption of the trailer released by Paramount Pictures reads, "Discover why our world went quiet," which has us very excited (and terrified) for what's to come.

Unlike A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, the third entry in the franchise wasn't written or directed by John Krasinski. Instead A Quiet Place: Day One was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, according to Deadline. He made his feature film directorial debut with the 2021 drama Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff, and Adam Arkin. The movie, which centered on a man (Cage) trying to find his truffle hunting pig, was a major hit with critics upon its release and became one of the best under-the-radar 2021 movies.

Though the two-month shoot seems rather short for a project like this, remember that the first two movies in the Quiet Place franchise featured a tremendous amount of visual effects to bring those terrifying monsters to life, and that once again appears to be the case with the highly anticipated prequel.

Expect to hear more about A Quiet Place: Day One as we slowly make our way closer to its release. In the meantime, take a look at the 2024 movie schedule so you can start filling in your calendar with all the great upcoming summer blockbusters.

A third and final sequel, A Quiet Place Part III, directed by Krasinski, is in development. The franchise also includes an upcoming video game A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, which is in development by Stormind Games and scheduled to be released by Saber Interactive in 2024.

The plot revolves around a mother (Emily Blunt) and father (Krasinski) who struggle to survive and raise their children in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.

The sequel follows the family from the first film as they continue to navigate a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind aliens with an acute sense of hearing. Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou joined the original cast.

In November 2020, it was announced that a spin-off prequel film was in development, with Jeff Nichols set to serve as writer/director, based on a story from John Krasinski. The project is a joint-venture production between Platinum Dunes and Sunday Night Productions, with Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, and Krasinski producing.[1][2][3] In May 2021, Krasinski announced that Nichols' script was complete and submitted to the studio.[4] By October, however, Nichols stepped down as director citing creative differences.[5] In January 2022, Michael Sarnoski signed on as director and writer.[6][7] In April 2022 at CinemaCon, the film's title was officially announced as, A Quiet Place: Day One.[8][9][10] Principal photography commenced on January 2, 2023, in London, England.[11]

In May 2021, Blunt revealed that Krasinski has plans for a third and final A Quiet Place film. Acknowledging that he had wanted to see how the second installment was received before moving forward on the next film, she stated it is intended to be a trilogy.[13] In July, Blunt confirmed that Krasinski is working on a third and final installment, separate from the spin-off movie, with intentions to once again serve as director.[14] In February 2022, A Quiet Place Part III was officially announced with a scheduled release date in 2025.[15] However, in February 2024 the film no longer had a set release date.[16]

Beck and Woods said that Krasinski taking over the film as director "wasn't about reshaping it in any massive way" and that he "really protected our vision of the script".[18] Krasinski said that their script differed from his "in a bunch of little ways, but the heart was all theirs. They really had this thing that I wanted to be a part of."[22] He focused on the idea of family being the core of the story, "so every scare has to be because you love this family, every detail has to become a detail that says something about this family not just to be cool, not just to be scary."[24] His contributions to the screenplay included the use of sign language, sand paths, the lights, and the walk to the forest and the pharmacy.[24][22] The idea for sign language came about when, prior to filming, deaf actress Simmonds showed Krasinski the American Sign Language (ASL) translation for a scene's dialogue, and he found her gestures to be "so much more cinematic than saying the words would've been".[26] Blunt contributed to the pre-production stage of the film.[23][24] Most of the directing Krasinski did with her role was off-screen from the moment she accepted the project. Blunt offered ideas, and the two worked through the script and discussed the shots for the film before it went into production. By the time they got on set they had "done all the collaborating ... all the hard work."[24][23][26]
