IS SEEING BELIEVING? or . . . IS BELIEVING SEEING?

Hi ____,

I'm delighted to see you referencing the paragraph from the textbook
that contains the sentence, "An image of mortal thought, reflected
on the retina, is all that the eye beholds."

Just yesterday I had occasion to write an email to an outstanding
student of Christian Science who possesses a rare and profound love
for our beloved Leader. Here's the part of that email that pertains
to the sentence just cited.

BEGIN PASTE:

"For over a decade I have repeatedly harped and harped within
possibly a score of my posts on various C.S. Groups about one
sentence from the textbook, that, if spiritually understood, would
set the entire body of students of Christian Science in an entirely
different direction than the one in which their thought currently
is now focused! The divine energy inherent with just this one
sentence is so dynamic and revolutionary that someday it will be
tapped, and from the moment it is, our entire concept of 'treatment'
will undergo nothing less than a radical 180 degree change of emphasis
and implementation. That sentence is found on page 479, and begins
on line 9:

"An image of mortal thought, reflected on the retina, is all that
the eye beholds."

Just ponder this and see what happens!

Where, in belief, does "an image of mortal thought" seemingly
originate?

Well, its commonly regarded as originating within the brain!

Well, then, what happens when the curtains [eyelids] are lifted and
suddenly consciousness beholds?

Does what consciousness see come flooding INTO the eye from "out
there" as a depiction of illuminated imagery of people, places and
things?

Well, that's the universal belief relevant to what we regard as
"seeing," is it not?

Science reveals the opposite as being true!

When we raise the curtains [eyelids] that act as covers over our
eyes, what we believe that we are seeing of all those persons,
places and things that we so unthinkingly and uniformly regard as
being and existing "out there," . . . really aren't "out there" at
all! Acting as does a screen within a movie theater, the retina
receives imagery [an image of mortal thought] that is being
projected upon the back side of the retinas of our eyes, FROM
WITHIN, . . . from the brain, . . . as the so-called human brain
acts as the internal camera that emits and projects [its inverted
imagery, or, its "image of mortal thought] upon the back of the
eye's retinas. Thus, all that the eye's retinas behold is that
which is being generated by the camera within the projection booth
[the brain within the cranium] as this imagery is cast from out of
the camera and directly onto the back of the eye's retinas! This
unbroken flow of mentally generated and projected imagery is
possessed of depth, breadth, height, line, plane, texture, color and
all of the other attributes and qualities that we have always
believed we were beholding because we believed we were receiving
optical impressions that had originated from illuminated material
objects that we mistook as occupying both place and space "out
there."

Thus, our entire mistaken belief regarding optics has us thinking
we're beholding imagery that looks as though it exists "out there"
and that, when illuminated, the refracted light impacts as a
reflected image onto the retina of our eyes and thereby does the
objective scene, or the illuminated impressions, become interjected
into us where, belief has it, they take form and become sharply
focused upon their entry into the visual cortex within the brain!

That's all balderdash, if Science is true!

Until and unless we come to grips with this dynamic schematic of
divine metaphysics, which Science reveals, we'll continue engaging
in that heinously ignorant and mistaken practice that would have us
transmitting "treatment" to some impaired or impoverished person,
place or thing that we have so thoroughly misidentified and
misplaced by entertaining the entirely erroneous and mistaken belief
in the substantiality of the mythically objective realm that we've
misconceived and misidentified as being a domain fabricated of matter!
Science reveals that such a mythological, material realm exists,
exclusively, within mistaken belief only, . . . and not "out there"
in a cosmos fabricated of organized and unorganized matter, and that
is completely dominated by the forces emitted, helter-skelter, from
that substance-less, and thus, energy-less, non-existing and
illusory fabric that we so ignorantly misidentify as 'matter!' Oh,
my, what an awakening lies ahead for almost every Christian
Scientist I know! I've never been the same since impacted upon by
this most awesome realization and spiritual understanding! And just
imagine, only one sentence of God's WORD both contains and imparts
all of this truth!"

I'm grateful, ____, to once again have occasion to bring this
profound realization and insight to the fore, as my every desire is
to always present the very finest I have to offer to all of my
brethren who, like myself, stand in awe of the might and majesty of
Mind's most sacred revelation of Christian Science!
