I have a HP LaserJet Pro 400 MFP printer, I print from a Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet and my problem is very long printing times.
I configured the printer to use SMB - Windows Shared Printer protocol.
Printing a simple PDF page, containing only text, takes about 2 minutes.
What could be the cause? Can you give me a hint on what should I investigate?

Thanks

Can you tell me which PDL you are using and what specific model Tablet and OS version?
Some PDLs like Postscript  take a long time to render on older Android devices without much memory.
Your HP Printer likely supports on-printer PDF rendering so you could try changing the PDL to RAW and allow the PDF to be rendered on the printer.
The PDL is changed easily by hitting MENU->Manage Printers. Then choose your printer and "Change".

I tried various PDLs: RAW, JPG, PCL, PCL-C, PS, PDF, PCL-XL. The time is stil the same as if the format doesn't matter.
The tablet that I use is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4" (http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab/SM-T700NZWAXAR)

What I discovered so far is that the tablet takes about 10 seconds to send the print job to the printing queue on the printing server then the printer takes almost 2 minutes to print that job.
Another finding is that the printing job data size sent from tablet is significantly larger than the printing job when printing from the printer server computer and printing the exact same file.
