Good morning,
Hope you are having a lovely weekend and pop get to pop down to see your gardens :) There are plenty of tomato, basil, strawberry and chilli seedlings for the gardens situated next to the worm farms so help yourselves!
A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL for your involvement on the opening and the kinds offerings of food and donations that you put together. There are so many of you that
contributed in so many different ways to the amazing opening celebrations, that
I don’t quite know where to begin to thank you – so at the risk of missing
someone out I want to make special mention of……… Kimberley and the incredible
iced tea and cupcake stand she created; Marion for the trio that just made it
feel like a ‘real’ garden party as soon as they started playing their wonderful
music; Margaret & West for their tireless work in planting up, tidying up
and preparing – and our giant funky flax arrangement!; Michelle for her
extraordinary energy and hard work in so many areas – and those history
snippets and photos that provided a whole extra dimension to the day; Angela
and Deborah for the amazing arrival of a medicinal Herb Garden just in time –
wow that was hard work…but you did it!; Wal for his quiet ‘getting on with the
job’ to ensure the gardens looked great on the day (and for all those seedlings
you keep producing!); Karina for the scarecows – we love them!!; Ian &
Rebecca who sang and played so beautifully – what a gift of musical talent that
added to the relaxed and special’ atmosphere; to my wonderful husband Al – not
many know how many hours you slogged in those last weeks to make the opening
the success it was (but I do and I am SOOO grateful!); Johno, who
singlehandedly organized almost all of the giveaways, meat, bread, sauce tea
and coffee…etc. A huge effort with huge results!; to all of you who made
salads, baking, dressings, homemade lemonade, contributed pita breads and so on that all worked together perfectly to make a
great meal for so many (I think there were 180 meals served! Whew!!); to those
who turned up and shoveled, wheel-barrowed, weeded, tidied and sweated (Sue
even bled on our behalf!) to make the gardens look fabulous on the day – and
they do look fabulous. It was a massive effort on so many levels – but so exciting
to see it all come together and our collective pride and joy in what has been
achieved in such a short time. As a gardening ‘family’ it was great to mark a
point in time to stop and savor the fruits of our labours and indulge in an
essential and well deserved bit of collective back patting. Well done
everyone!! With
more thankyous than I can possibly communicate in words – Anne Gourley
Our regular gardeners meeting is this
Wednesday, 8th at 5.30pm.
Michelle’s neighbour Sue is going to do a Singapore style cook & taste
demonstration using produce from our gardens; and we are going to share a few
ideas around using water wisely to get the best results from our gardens. Come
prepared to share and learn in this very ‘hands on’ meeting!
We will also be discussing a roster of people for our 10-12 shed opening times over the summer break.
It’s a busy time of year but also the best
time for making the most of long balmy evenings at the gardens…an idea has been floated about a semi-regular
Friday night BBQ shared tea? We have lots of bread, sauce and some meat patties
left over from the opening celebrations – so with some on the spot freshly
picked salady things and BYO eating utensils/drinks we could have an instant
feast!! We are thinking the first one could possible be on the Friday 17th at 6pm??
Kind regards and look forward to seeing you Wednesday!!
Lets Get Growing!
