Kia ora koutou,

Last night we had a great first GARDENERS MEETING and discussed the opening on November 20th from 4 - 7pm.

The opening is going to be a celebration of all those people who have helped and a celebration of us, the foundation gardeners!

Thanks to everyone for offering to support the opening function.  Here are the ways in which we can all help out (pick one and let me know):
 - Donation $$ for the group cooking the sausages
 - Bake a cake, muffins or biscuits
 - Make a salad
 - Buy some pita breads
 - Give us ideas for kids games
 - Find a musician or bring your instruments along

Please let me know how you would like to contribute then I can delegate any tasks that are missing from the list.  Or give me a call on 027 271 9256 to discuss!

Troubleshooting in the garden -
You may have noticed that some of the tomatoes and potatoes leaves are curling.  Some beans are also yellowing on their leaves.  We had Phil from Revital soils come and look at the gardens for some advice.  He believes that we may have made the mixture too rich for the plants.  Revital are going to be giving us some topsoil and some 'worm wee' for the gardens to help remedy the situation.  So, for planting beans, tomatoes or potatoes be sure to use some of the topsoil or use it to build up the top layer of your garden.  The worm wee will help with an transplant shock so mix with water 10:1 to dilute and use when planting out.

Matt also found some interesting bright yellow fungus in his garden tonight - It's called 'slime mould or mulch mould' - it's "harmless and beneficial" to the soil as it's helping to break down the soil - see the link:  http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36527

WORKING BEE THIS WEEKEND - SATURDAY 6 NOVEMBER from 9am
Filling the remaining garden beds.  There will be extra shovels and wheelbarrows but if you have any of these bring them along.  Pop in anytime throughout the day if you have a spare moment :)
