Welcome to the Lets Get Growing community garden - Tauranga's first allotment style garden!

Please come along to our first ever gardeners meeting this coming Wednesday, 3rd Nov, 5.30pm (at the gardens) to hear about the opening celebrations and plan how we can achieve a fantastic event we can all be proud of.

We have much to celebrate as the gardens burst into life – and we intend to do just that at an ‘official’ opening on Nov 20th (4 - 7pm…. Mark your calendar)

Agenda:

Welcome to everybody - where we are now and where we have come from :).

Intros

Building our community - how we can be involved to work together

Plans for the opening - what we want to do for the opening day

We look forward to getting to know you and trust you will gain more than ‘just vegetables’ from being involved!

See you Wednesday evening at the gardens :)  Please pass on to anyone that might have been missed in this email -

Hi Kimberley
Sending my apologies, it is enrolment day for Lily's Athletics (and already
missing my work meeting for that), sorry. Deb has dimensions of herb garden,
which she is planning to email to you (sorry we've got a bit swamped with
workshops that will be on next Mon and Tues). We hope to have 80 at our
workshops, so if you have any flyers about open day we can have them on our info
table (I've also put Lets Get Growing website and directions in the participants
booklets). Deb and I hope to source at least some of the herbs and have them
planted before opening day (that's if it can be managed to build and fill the
bed before then?).

Thanks Ange,  I haven't got myself a ticket yet but am super keen to come on the Monday - is there still spaces available??

Great, will look forward to getting the design and will talk to Anne and Al about it on Wed :)  Hopefully we can get it all sorted before the 20th.

Regards,

Kim

Hi Kimberley
Yes there is space on either night as have seating capacity for up to 60.
Tickets can be purchased from John's Photo Pharmacy (the herb dispensary
counter), Palmers Bethlehem or Good Earth ... or you can deposit into Herbwise
bank account and I'll set one aside (email for details if you want to do it that
way).
Looking forward to starting garden ... will be able to focus on it once
workshops out of the way that. Deb will be faxing garden dimensions to Anne I
think, have emailed Anne for a fax number.
Regards
Angela

Hi all
I'm unable to do Wednesday night meetings as have another commitment on
Wednesdays ... but a little update with the herb garden.

We hope to get the other two plots filled soon. I'm currently unable to lift as
have stitches front and back of shoulder, this will slow me down until healed,
but if anyone can help Deborah prepare the beds that would be great.

We have a few herbs waiting to be planted, some to be moved to more appropriate
locations and still trying to source other herbs without too much expense.
We are putting a list together, at this stage I know we are after more Echinacea
(only have one and too late to raise from seed) and Golden Rod, hopefully the
Tauranga or Katikati Herb Society can help, but if anyone else can help please
email me back.

We are also very keen to see an Elderberry tree planted somewhere, we may be
able to start one from a cutting or could approach Koanga Gardens for a
donation/discount ... they cost $17.

We are also after a lemon tree, preferably one we can standardise, to go in the
box planter at the back of the garden.

It would be nice to get some pavers for a path up to the seat, then we could
work on getting fragrant chamomile (Roman) and thyme ground cover growing around
them.
Thats the plans at this stage.
Thanks.

HI Angela,

I have an echinacea plant that I could divide. I have decided I want to
keep my elderberry tree, but I am happy
to make a cutting from it, if that would help.

I wish you super healing. What happened to your shoulder?

Warm wishes
Julia

Hi Julia
Yes, yes, to both the echinacea and a cutting of elderberry ... we just need to
check with garden team whether they have got space for a elder. Do you know if
you've got Echinacea purpurea, angustifolia or other?
Let me know when is a good time collect/drop off (no urgency).
PS: the stitches are from 2 x basal cell carcinomas, rather large as they were
misdiagnosed over 2 years ago by GP ... lesson learnt... use a skin specialist
for diagnosis from now on.
Thanks Julia
Angela
