this letter below is a great initiative started by one of our Playcentre members. Please support her cause if you think it is worthwhile by signing the petition and by distributing it to everyone you know, by e-mail, facebook, twitter and however else you communicate with the world.
Thanks for your effort - our city Otautahi Christchurch depends on it.

Dear Friends,
I hope this finds you and your loved ones safe and well, and warmest greetings to those few of you I haven't recently had direct contact with.
As most of you will know, we experienced a second major and devastating earthquake here in Christchurch in February, which has taken over 200 lives, wrecking the central city, many Eastern suburbs and our port of Lyttelton . In short, the city is as Kiwis put it 'munted'!
Now, plans for a rebuild are beginning to get underway but worryingly, issues of environmental sustainability just don't seem to be on the agenda for those appointed to lead the recovery. Yet speaking to folk locally, many, many people feel that Christchurch has a unique opportunity now to do something really special with its rebuild - a chance to put into place the very best of sustainable building principles and sustainable urban design, to the benefit of its people and its unique natural environment.
I feel really strongly about this issue and having trawled the Net for the past few weeks, looking for some leadership or initiatives in this area but finding none, I have decided to start an online petition entitled
"Tell New Zealand’s government: Christchurch rebuild must lead the world in sustainability".
I'm trying to collect 10,000 signatures, and I'm emailing you because I thought you might be interested in signing.
To read more about what I'm trying to do and to sign the petition, click here:

It really does only take a minute - and the site I've used (change.org) is a bona fide site which will handle your personal information with complete privacy and integrity.
Please, of course, feel free to invite those of your friends and contacts who you think would like to add their voice, to sign the petition as well.
Here's hoping we can really make a difference!
With much love and many thanks,
Lou
