Of course, Media Suite 10 is not a single program, but rather a collection of 11 digital media oriented applications and utilities. Keeping 11 different software programs straight may seem a daunting task, but CyberLink has made it easy with their intelligently laid out opening screen, referred to as the PowerStarter navigation menu.
With Data & Backup you can create data discs, copy discs and burn .iso files with Power2Go, backup files and restore them with PowerBackup 2.6 and even duplicate movie discs with PowerDVD Copy 1.5. Available utilities include erasing discs, extracting files from a disc image, mounting a virtual drive with Power2Go, and transferring media to mobile devices with MediaEspresso 6. There is capability to burn DVD folders with PowerProducer and printing disc labels with LabelPrint 2.6.
Of course, ease of use is one thing, but power and performance is something else entirely. For the price, PowerDirector 10 is a surprisingly powerful editing program. Capture, edit, produce and create disc buttons at the upper left of the interface make video creation as simple as one, two, three and four. Below these are the project library, with the preview window to its right and the timeline down below. Capture and import files into your media library from a wide variety of sources. Select the desired media files and drag them down into the timeline for editing (as many as 100 audio and video tracks).

The suite has 12 PC packages. PowerDVD 14 handles media playback, PowerDirector 12 and PhotoDirector 5 provide video and photo editing, PowerProducer 6 and Power2Go 9 cover disc authoring and burning, MediaEspresso 7 handles your media conversion needs, and MediaShow 6, WaveEditor 2, PowerBackup 2.6, PowerDVD Copy 1.5, Label Print 2.5 and Instant Burn 5.0 are also thrown in.
And the suite also offers a trio of mobile apps. PowerDirector Mobile and a new PhotoDirector Mobile bring video and photo editing to Android and Windows 8 devices, while Power Media Player (formerly PowerDVD Mobile) is a media player for Android, iOS and Windows 8.
Still, the most notable change from last year's release is in the price of the premium edition of the suite (the three versions have dropped to 50, 70 and 90). This is pretty reasonable considering the difference between the three packages is minor relative to what the average consumer uses.
Finally we come to the suite's newest tool, MediaEspresso. If you want to convert media for portable use or social networks, this should be your first port of call. It's fast and reliable compared to the open source encoders we've tried, it has a wide range of outputs and the movies it produced from our test video transferred easily to iPhone and were generally of good quality.
Sadly, this time round the suite seems to have become riddled with adverts, even at the Ultra level, ranging from ads for new videos in Power DVD to separate windows popping up in PowerProducer encouraging you to upgrade and (at the time of writing) annoying Christmas e-card messages on the interface. It's hardly the worst problem in the world, but is an irritating blemish on an otherwise great suite.

Smooth functioning: Taking a screenshot through this program couldn't be easier. Once you access the app icon in the lower Windows toolbar, you'll see a crosshair displayed on the screen. Just click and drag to frame the part of the screen you want to capture, and then let go when you have the image you want. This will immediately open an editing screen dominated by the screenshot you just took and featuring editing tools displayed around the edges, so you can add any marks or emphasis you'd like before uploading your shot.
