Videogame publishers Koei Tecmo and developers Omega Force have released new details regarding their upcoming Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires. Dynasty Warriors is a long-running franchise that saw the release of its first game back in February of 1997. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires serves as a spin-off to Dynasty Warriors 9 which came out in 2018. As with other Empires spin-offs, it enables the player to set out on a campaign to conquer the whole of china using strategic tactics and features not available in the main games.

Traditionally, Dynasty Warriors games feature a 1-versus-1000 hack and slash style gameplay where the player is able to take control of different warriors using them to turn the tides in large-scale war-like battles. The Empires spin-offs, which first showed up in 2004 with Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires, have been a much-loved addition to the series which has added in tactical and strategical elements inspired by Koei Tecmo's earlier Romance of the Three Kingdoms games.

Details reviewed in a recent post from Gematsu go over the game's new tactical gameplay including features like the Politics System and Territory Stroll. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires Politics System will enable players to use domestic affairs commands to help procure useful resources like food, gold, and battle troops. Players will also be able to use political commands to recruit, hire, or try and steal new officers from competing kingdoms. The Territory Stroll is a new feature being brought to the series that allows the player to explore ancient China in between battles giving a chance to enhance relationships with different officers while also taking up different requests they may provide. Territory Stroll will also offer the chance to recruit new unaffiliated officers to your ranks and give an enhanced perspective on the views of you officers when bonding.

Another feature of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires touched on is the upgraded Photo Mode. Players will now be given the ability to equip whatever clothing they choose underneath the armor in the character editor and choose what the character is wearing and when. Unlike the set pieces in the previous installments, the novel cosmetic upgrade of being able to layer your playable character's clothing and armor should thoroughly enhance the fun and creativity involved when snapping in-game shots of the player experience.

While Koei Tecmo has spent over two decades now pumping out new entries to the Dynasty Warriors series, among other well-established franchises like Dead or Alive and the Atelier games, some gamers may be starting to feel like the games are in desperate need of a reboot. While it would seem there is definitely a market for the Dynasty Warriors games and their spin-offs, the gameplay involved has not seen many drastic changes throughout the years. With many new installments presenting upgraded graphics, new storylines, and minor changes to mechanics and gameplay, it may not be enough to keep many fans engaged for much longer. Slated for release on February 15th, 2022 in North America and Europe, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will give players the chance to decide for themselves if the developer's slight improvements to the series newest installments are enough to keep them coming back for more.

Being victorious on the battlefield seen as both a positive (defending one's beliefs, fighting for one's country) and a negative (killing others). There's also the use of diplomacy, political schemes to unify factions.

Unless familiar with the series, some might find it a little challenging to play, even though introductory missions get you going. Mostly a hack-'n'-slash-style action game with combos and special moves.

Players master a number of weapons -- swords, spears, hammers, crossbows -- to defeat hordes of enemy soldiers. Though there's no blood, enemies often scream out in pain, fall to the ground when defeated.

Parents need to know that Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires is a combat-heavy tactical war game that lets players fight to take control over ancient China. Players can choose to create their own warriors or use one of more than 80 included in the game to fight for your faction. A number of swords, knives, hammers, and crossbows, among other weapons, can be used to defeat hundreds of enemies. There's no blood or gore but lots of violence against swarms of AI-driven opponents. Parents also need to know there's some suggestive imagery of female characters, references to alcohol, and an optional in-game purchase for extra content.

Koei Tecmo's DYNASTY WARRIORS 8 EMPIRES is a third-person tactical action-adventure that revolves around fighting to gain control over ancient China. Along with creating your own unique character, you can assume the role of 83 warriors, including many fan favorites from previous games. Playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as a digital download for PlayStation 3 and Windows PC, this latest game includes new features such as deep customization (fighters, horses, banners, and armies), the ability to import characters from previous saves, battlefields that evolve with environmental changes, and a "custom scenario" mode that lets you tweak virtually every detail in the world.

Though this is not quite a mainstream game in the western world -- mainly because of its historical premise and heavy tactics -- fans of the series likely will appreciate Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires for its many customization options, such as an unprecedented number of warriors to choose from, dozens of battlefields, and the return of the awesome Empire mode. Here, gamers can choose from one of many unique roles, warfare methodology, and locations to fight through. Not that it's a bad thing, but the core gameplay hasn't changed much over the years. You'll hack-'n'-slash your way through armies, swapping weapons and utilizing combo attacks for extra damage, along with conquering bases, claiming territory, and defending your land against relentless intruders. Along with the action, there's some diplomatic decisions to be made. Players have a Risk-like map of territories to conquer and stats to wade through, if you like.

Families can talk about the impact of violence in games such as Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires. Is the violence justified because it mirrors history? Since ancient Chinese battles were well-documented, could it be argued there's some pretext here for these battles, or is it plain wrong to present war as entertainment?
