I would like to connect my Apple Airport Time Capsule to my Windows 7-based laptop via an ethernet cable without hindering my ability to connect to the internet wirelessly. I am currently using the Capsule as a harddrive, not a wireless hub. I receive wi-fi internet from another time capsule I already have set up.
I cant access the hard drive of my time capsule via my windows xp virtual machine. My VM network settings is on "bridged". what other settings do i need to have in airport utility (i can see the time capsule when i open airport utility in windows), or in the windows network settings. thanks for any help. Unfortunately it's not hard to find incorrect advice on this issue. A search for use apple time capsule from windows turns up a number of articles with differing opinions. Some point out that Windows 10 no longer supports (out of the box) NAS services based on the SMB1 protocol, because using SMB1 leaves your computer open to the Wannacry attack. Since that's a really bad horrid computer virus, you really don't want to leave your computer open to that vulnerability.
10.0.1.1 is your TC IP address. uid is your user id to set the permissions and user allows you to mount it without being root. Then from a terminal you can "mount /media/timecapsule" and it will work.
