CONTENTdm uses OCLC LDAP accounts, which were the same accounts used by the old WorldCat.org. New WorldCat.org uses a different account system; so, CONTENTdm will have a new account management portal to continue managing OCLC LDAP accounts.

The old OCLC LDAP account management portal has more functionalities for WorldCat.org, such as assigning profile pictures, managing lists and favorites, etc.... The new account management portal will only support creating accounts, logging in, and retrieving passwords. After successfully logging in, you will be asked to change your password, which is not required. You can return to using CONTENTdm as normal.

Reports will be available via email. When your first report is available, you will get an email from Usage_St...@oclc.org with the subject field: "The report [name of report] you requested for [YYYYMMDD]." Reports are also available in the OCLC Usage Statistics Portal and they are identical to the reports that come by email. See how to Access emailed reports in the OCLC Usage Statistics Portal.

Colorado institutions that do not use OCLC may work with us directly to enable lending and borrowing. First time users should contact us at cu-...@colorado.edu to verify that you do not already have an account, and to request login credentials. Thereafter, those institutions may log in to request loans or scans via our ILLiad lender portal.

When I covered OCLC PICA's acquisition of Sisis Informationssysteme (Smart Libraries Newsletter 25, no. 9, Sept. 2005, p. 4), a few months ago, I suggested this development did not necessarily represent OCLC making a major move back into the ILS arena. But now that OCLC PICA has gone on to acquire a much larger automation company, the company makes apparent its desire to compete in the area of library software. With three library automation systems; a union catalog environment; one of the major federated search products; an OpenURL linking product; a community-information portal; and a peer-to-peer ILL system, OCLC now stands as one of the major library automation vendors. Its expansion into these areas represents a major development in the library automation industry and is one that the field should follow closely.

Before getting started, a user interested in working with the Metadata API will need to request a Web Services Key. Keys are assigned to specific users, are associated with one or more specific API services, and are requested through the portal [ ]. The Metadata API is somewhat unique, however, in that the service key only provides access to the API and authenticates the requests made against the server. To obtain access to the Metadata API, one needs to have two accounts; 1) a WorldCat.org account to request the key, and 2) a WorldShare user account with Cataloging/Metadata permissions which are generally managed at the local level. Without the correct cataloging permissions, users with valid service keys will be able to make requests against the server, but the requested actions will not be processed due to insufficient permissions to work with the WorldCat Database itself.

Each participating library is asked to designate a primary courier contact. Designated contacts should be enrolled in the KYVL member portal and subscribed to the KYVL Courier e-list. See Sign up and Subscribe to e-lists instructions at kyvl.org/portalhelp.
