PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (
defend.ht) – President Michel Martelly issued, on Tuesday, an order appointing the members of a commission tasked with forming a new Haitian military force.
The commission will work on a rehabilitation plan of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAdH) by providing sources of funding, its mission and the size of the new national force. The commission will consist of 7 members.
• Richard Morasse (Secretary of State for Defense) President
• Reginald Delva (Secretary of State for Public Security) Vice President
• Bergerac Jean Barette Secretary-reporter
• Gerard Gourgue, a prominent lawyer and former presidential candidate is appointed to the Commission.
• George Michel, a journalist-historian and member of the Constituent Assembly and former member of a commission on the creation of the police force under the chairmanship of René Préval.
• Former Colonel Jean Thomas Cyprien.
Announcing the creation of this commission, President Michel Martelly promised to release January 1, 2012 the report of the Commission.
The time allotted to this commission, says Article 2 of this Order is 40 days, notched on which it will submit to the president the plan for the organization of the military component of the Police Force.
According to Article I of the decree, the commission shall consult with various sectors of national life, such as: Business, Parliament, civil society, professional associations, political parties, grassroots organizations and churches.
Note that the term of office of the commission is 6 months from Tuesday.
