The Grand America Christmas party has gone live.  Details are on facebook.

I'm hosting a masquerade dinner at the Grand America. The dinner includes a full bar, dance floor, dj, and karaoke. Tickets are $35 (a big discount). Please RSVP through Pay Pal (kip.werking at gmail), or arrange to pay me in person. We have space to accept the first 40 persons who RSVP.

I'm coordinating fog machines, laser machines, and possibly a bounce house.

Dinner starts at 8:00 pm. Party ends at midnight - but there will be an after party!

The dinner menu includes:

Salad: Mixed baby greens, shaved cucumber, roaster pear, candied walnuts, cherry vinaigrette
Entree: Slow braised boneless short rib, natural jus, potato puree, thumbelina carrots, baby portabellas, haricots verts
Dessert: Eggnog Pots de Creme with Creme Chantilly and Shortbread Cookies

The ticket price includes two mixed drinks at the bar. The bar serves "deluxe selections (Jack Daniel's, Seagram's, Dewar's, Beefeater, Absolut, Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Jose Cuervo, Heineken, Amstel Light, Budweiser, Local Microbrews, Dasani, and Calistoga), Wine, Imported and Domestic Beer, Soft Drinks, and Mineral Water.

IMPORTANT:

As far as I can tell, I have not received an RSVP or payment from ANYONE in this group.  Of course, I don't want to twist anyone's arm.

But, if you are planning on attending, it is important that you RSVP and pay me as soon as practical.  Why?

1. I need to give a final head court 3 days before the event
2. Having an accurate current count helps me calibrate my efforts to reach my target number (~30-40) people - we're currently at about 20 people RSVPed, with the vast majority having paid already)
3. receiving payment helps me finance the event without liquidating my own savings

I'm looking at you: Adam Isom, Melanie Heisey, Carrie Jay, Kevin van Horn, and everyone else on this group.

If you do RSVP, I promise that you will get more than your $35 worth (I can show you receipts, if you're skeptical).

If there is something holding you back, let me know.  I can potentially waive or discount the fee if you're in a financial tight spot - I know that $35 is a lot for a typical party (but bargain basement for this caliber of food and venue).  You can also potentially help me prepare and set up, and then clean up after, the party in exchange for a fee discount or waiver.  I'm flexible.

The party is relatively expensive (given the venue).  Accordingly, I would much rather maximize fun and attendance than nickel and dime people for the $35 entrance fee.

If you have conflicting plans, you can potentially come after dinner (waiving the fee), for dancing until midnight, or to the afterparty after midnight.

Please let me know if there's anything more I can do to ensure your attendance and make the event a big success for everyone.

Anyone have advice on rental/obtaining the following for the party:

1. high quality party lasers
2. big black lights
3. dry ice

And similar party fun things?

Please contact me.

Kip,

Did you delete the event on FB?

I'm talking to my wife about it, but it sounds like something she would like.

I'll get back to you soon.

OK I sent you the invite via facebook.  There is an abundance of detail there.

Not sure how I missed you in the original invite of 100+ people.

I'm coming.

Also I would be happy to help set up, just text me.
Also also I'm asking a frat friend about party stuff (all I can do there).

Is your profile picture that of a young boy?  It doesn't say where you're from on that profile...  I'll friend you once I know, I'd hate to freak out some kid with a friend request!

Hahahaha! Jeremy, that is so funny! It makes perfect sense, but how many times have I looked at that picture of him and never thought that!

Hey Kip, seeing as I fall squarely into the group "the rest of you" I figured I'd better indicate that I won't be able to make it. Sounds fun though.

Sounds great but I'm now going to be out of town... Do you throw these type of parties very often?

I throw parties regularly (more and more these days).

But a gourmet meal masquerade party at an ultra-luxury hotel - that's about once a year.

I am trying to set up an annual patent law conference at the Grand America.

But patent attorneys generally don't party and boogie the way that LWers do.
