Like many of you, I've been dual booting since the early 2010's, and I've wanted to switch to Linux only as my daily driver OS, but what's held me back isn't games, or difficulty adapting from Windows to Linux, but because of Office. For both personal and professional reasons, office is a requirement for me as it is for many of you. MS Office is the gold standard of office suites (flaws included) and its why many of us fiddle so much with Wine, PlayOnLinux (POL), Bottles, WinApps (FMStrat Github), and many more to get MS Office working properly on an OS it was not built for.

MS Edge Beta browser for Linux (native) works great and is better than the wrapper in my opinion and mileage. I can open as many docs or office apps and they are all tabbed and organized. If I need to pull a tab out and make it its own window, I can. I also set the default opening page to the Main Office 365 "control page" or landing page with recent files and all the apps. Also, Edge offers notifications for each individual app from what I've noticed so far. Great for Outlook email and OneNote collaborations.

I ran into an an article that might be helpful for those that prefer the 'look and feel' of Microsoft Office to that of the default LibreOffice UI. This is a regular request I see posted on this sub reddit.

A quick question, I do quite a good amount of work on LibreOffice as my main office suite for both personal work and professional work that does not require to share/collaborate my files with others. Frankly, I prefer LibreOffice over Microsoft Office in terms of feel and workflow (excels right side options menu for editing text and other things is quite annoying).

Hi, i want to switch to linux mint (from windows), but i have 2 questions. Is there a way to install microsoft teams and microsoft office? I won't be able to change my OS if i cant't download ms office(the only one i m allowed to use for work) And how do you customize your desktop environment? some of the ones i've seen in this subreddit are really cool.

For the recent 2301 update it was released March 14, what's the process for the app to check-in and receive the automatic update. Does anyone have the technical document to show how often office apps/click2run is checking for updates and when it updates. My current settings are all default why would it take more than a week to update? (I've rebooted multiple times within that time frame, my goal is to not force an update, just ride with flow automatic updates)

Hi guys, i am a long time mac user, but this is the first time asking this... i am currently using microsoft word app for documents, but i really hate microsoft system, i tried one month storage upgrade for 9.99$ and there's no way to cancel it. Today a saw a charge of this money and won't be able to cancel it!

Hello everyone. I'm making my switch to Linux in the upcoming weeks. But I'm worried about office apps. I'm not looking for advanced features. I just want to be able to write documents and create sheets. Also, my university expects me to turn in Microsoft Word documents. If I convert from these 2 alternatives, will everything convert properly? Sometimes they will require specific layouts, bezels, line spacing, font and size. Will they get messed up while converting?

After being disappointed with document flaws when viewing word documents, I finally came across Softmaker Office (they make an exact replica of Word, Excel and PowerPoint). I'm so glad there's a solid commercial solution as I can't live without these basic office tools whilst working from home.

I'm not technically new to arch and linux overall as I've used them for simple projects. But after discovering the unixporn subreddit it made me want to rice my system and use at as a dailydriver and I did, I'm quite satisfied with my arch rice but I kinda left it for almost 3 months now. That's because there are some applications from windows that just can't be replaced and one of those is Microsft Office, especually word.

With both Microsoft Office 2010 and 2007 being EOL on updates for awhile now, I thought I'd switch over to LibreOffice on my Windows machines fully. The thing is that I'm still need the interoperability of Microsoft's document format like .doc and .docx as an example for work. From what I hear, Microsoft is kinda messy with their xml format to the point that different versions of their office suites can't even properly read the others' saved files, I noticed this particularly with complex documents like resumes and presentations made from newer office versions. I was wondering how LibreOffice compares to Office 2007 and Office 2010 in regards to creating and reading the Microsoft files?

What can I do? I understand that is a problem caused by some residual file that is picked up by the PC but I've tried to uninstall and reinstall everything multiple times also using the tool from Microsoft but with no success. And the application are installed as Office 365 when checking inside the various apps. Sometimes after a Windows update I have Microsoft office 365 for a couple of day before it returning to the 2019 version.

This Office click-to-run service hogs up too much memory sometimes even when not using office apps. It is really anonying because sometimes it affets the performnce of other programs. Is there a way to permanently stop this service or configure it in such a way that it only runs while using office apps. Clicking on end task doesnt work because it comes back up the next second.

Update : Found out that Office click-to-run is essential for office apps to function. When I tried disabling the service from services.msc, Word, Pp, Excel etc wont even open. So no point disabling it.

Pretty much the title. Office is a useless hub that is far less efficient than accessing files from my sync'd one drive folder, and I want to ditch it. It appears to have fully integrated with the rest of the microsoft programs and I don't want to waste time reinstalling each component. If I uninstall Office, what will remain?

Hello! I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I'm not very familiar with office 365, and I need help! I *think* I must have downloaded my first version of Office from my undergrad institution (2009-2013) but I honestly don't know. As far back as I can remember, I've always had access to word, powerpoint, and excel, and have used them regularly for 10+ years.

To me, this message makes it sound like my office account has expired - is that what happened? I was not expecting this at all since I had been using my undergrad version of office for 7 years past graduation and didn't think it would expire. I'm really, really hoping I didn't lose editing access to all my documents, including some active work projects :( Help!!

I have no problem getting NC installed on my Synology DS, it's just the issue of setting up an office/productivity suite. I'm committed to investing however much time necessary but I'd like to know beforehand what the sort of De Facto office suite is. Maybe De Facto isn't a good term. Maybe I'm asking what the most native office suite is.
