Today
is not the garden's
last day.
Our attorneys advise
that the law
requires the City to
provide us 14 days
notice before they
can perform an
eviction. We have
not received any
such notice. So for
now, the Garden is
safe from being
shuttered. We will
let everyone know if
we receive the 14
days notice in the
future.
We continue to
pursue all options
available to save
the garden including
remaining legal
options. Please stay
tuned in.
We’re also working
with Councilmember
Christopher Marte's
office to locate
more options for
affordable housing
at private sites in
the district. This
is an effort to add
to the existing proposal that preserves the garden in
its entirety and
provides more
affordable units.
Mayor
Adams and Deputy
Mayor Maria
Torress-Springer are
aware of our efforts
to locate more
affordable
opportunities at
private sites. We
have a rare
opportunity for
the Mayor, City
Council, and the
community to all
work together on a
solution that
provides
affordable housing
in the district and
preserves
Elizabeth Street
Garden with no
loss to the
community.
We
remain hopeful that
the Mayor will stay
true to his word and
visit the garden.
