I have a wireless setup from my HP Pavilion desktop to the Officejet 8720. This has stopped working for no apparent reason. All connections show as operational but the control panel states 'driver unobtainable'. I have tried HP Print and Scan doctor and also downloaded the latst drivers but windows refuses to acknowledge the existence of the HP8720, other than showing it as a 'fax'.

I understand that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer no longer works from your Win10 PC. The printer works fine on a tablet using the HP Smart app. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

You say: in Windows, search for and open Programs and Features, select your HP printer, and select Uninstall. I cannot find 'Programs and Features'. Are you referring to Control Panel/Programs where I can uninstall software?

All I got to say, is YOU ARE the MAN. I have spent over 2hrs uninstalling and re-installing the driver software with no success. Followed your procedure, and wallah, worked. Great feeling to get it working again. This did happen after a windows 10 update.

The link that you include in your answer is no longer active. I've been having the same trouble with the "Driver Unavailable" and am hoping that what you've suggested will work. I'm assuming I can just download the printer driver (again!!)

I previously had an Officejet 8000 Pro installed. A few days ago, the HP Support Assistant pushed a print driver update to me and I allowed it to install; I suspect that it pushed me an update for the old 8000 printer that overwrote the 8720 driver or at least some shared files. Completely removing both and then reinstalling only the 8720 seems to have put everything back right.

I have been trying over & over with no success to download a driver for my OfficeJet Pro 8720 all-in-one printer. HP has indicated that my printer serial # has expired! There must be a solution for this. I am functioning on Windows 7. But, am in the process of upgrading to Windows 11...just bought it a few weeks ago and haven't begun the process of changing. Am I stuck with my driver issue until I have Windows 11 on my 'puter? Please someone reply with good news for me. I can use it about now ;-). Rasser2

A month ago I bought a new 2020 M1 13" MacBook Pro to replace my trusty old 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 13" running macOS 11.1. The old 2013 unit had no problems but it was getting long in the tooth, as they say and I was worried it might fail suddenly, it is over 7 years old. Restoring my data to the new M1 was trouble free except I could not get the new M1 chip unit to drive my trusty old 30" Apple Cinema HD with the DVI-Dual Link input. Then I realized that the 2019 HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 did not work with the M1 MacBook Pro. I keep getting a message like "Some of the software for the printer is missing" and to contact the printer manufacturer for the latest compatible software.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that the printer can be used without additional drivers if the printer and the computer are connected to the same network.

We have seen other reports about difficulties with HP Easy Start and HP Smart, probably because of the way they work (with the computer connected). HP offers an alternative way via the aforementioned HP Easy Admin tool ( -en/document/c06164609). Did you try this as well?

If all else fails, you may have to look for other drivers that could be used. The (Dec 11, 2020) HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS ( =en_US&locale=en_US) package download from Apple (which otherwise has been known to work with some models even under Big Sur) does not show anything for the 8720, but you could perhaps check whether drivers for similar HP models would work. However, that would be purely experimental. If carrying out any tests with printer drivers, it is essential to have backup copies of all important files. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.

Sorry, none off the suggestions have worked. I have repeatedly tried them all. Printer, my MacBook Pro and my Windows PC, all are connected via Ethernet cables to the same network. I have updated the printer firmware. I have installed Easy Print or HP Smart. They do not work. What we do not do in my office is to use AirPrint. It is not permitted in our security paradigm.

This printer dis not require any reconfiguration for Windows even though multiple Windows updates have come and gone. Same configuration worked just fine with my old 2013 MacBook Pro 13" Retina through all the OS upgrades through Big Sur. But it just does not work with the 2020 M1 MacBook Pro 13". Is that an M1 problem?

Company CyberSecurity protocols do not permit AirPrint facility. A whole plethora of computers, PC's of various generations, Windows of various generations, populate this network. All worked with my old 2013 13" Retina MacBook Pro but my new 2020 M1 MacBook Pro 13" running the same latest macOS Big Sur will not print to this printer. As I have described in answer to another suggestion post, I have done all the things you have suggested, multiple times without success.

A comment on recent experiences with HP Printers: While I was quarantined abroad for several months, I bought an HP printer locally, a regular model HP inkjet. Turned out that model, advertised on HP website that specified particular inkjet cartridge models BUT learned later, the locally bought printer had been reprogrammed by HP to NOT accept those cartridges. I wasted a lot of money and discarded the printer because locally available cartridges were priced several times higher than the cost of the printer. Not a good business practice for HP. I ended up discarding the printer and bought another brand..

My client has a remote office she works from to remote into her workstation at work. She has a HP officejet pro 8720 connected via USB to the computer she uses to remote into the workstation. I made sure the remote workstation has the printer drivers installed and the security should be correct. The local resources check box for printers is checked off and when the remote session is initiated the printer shows up as a redirection which is correct from my understanding.

I have an MSI Katana GF66 laptop with W11 Pro and an HP OfficeJet 8720. My windows update is showing an installer error for an update for my printer. Install error: Install error - 0x800f020b for HP - Printer - 3.2.1.2285 can anyone please tell me how to fix this? I have been Googling it and there are lots of entries that are referencing Xerox printers which I do not have nor do I have anything from Xerox on my system. I have seen the issue mentioned many times on the HP community forums but when they report that a resolution has been accepted the green accepted box only shows the OP saying thank you and does NOT reference the actual fix steps.

No, I have not been able to receive an answer to my posting on how to fix the problem. I just tried looking at my account on the HP support forums and because they are doing maintenance. I cannot even sign in to that forum.

This being a problem that is occurring with the windows update I would think that Microsoft would know how to fix it as well as HP so I really would appreciate if anyone could post the actual repair steps to be taken to fix this problem.

This is getting annoying. The machine this error is on is not an HP machine, it is an MSI Katana GF66 and it is also an error with a WINDOWS UPDATE. That being said I cross posted my issue on the HP forums and they blew me off telling me to call support. This problem which is directly to do with a WINDOWS UPDATE is therefore a 100% Microsoft problem and needs to be treated by MS.
