Over the years, I have played with the more known hair herbs like cassia, henna, and indigo as well as logwood, blueberries, rhubarb and madder, and so on. What I love about these herbs is their versatility and their healing potential. Cassia and henna are beautiful for soothing irritated and imbalanced scalps. They also happen to add golden or copper hues to the hair. Same idea for plants like chamomile or hibiscus; chamomile is beautiful at soothing and can add a bit of golden sheen. Hibiscus is amazing at fortifying our hair follicles to aid in healthy growth and can also add a temporary tint of soft pink to light hair. There is such a beautiful duality between nourishment for the hair AND tinting.

Herbal hair colors like henna or indigo do not alter the natural state of the hair cuticle, nor do they require a chemical developer or any byproducts of the petrochemical industry. Herbal hair colors are simply plants containing pigments that stain the outer hair cuticle. Not only are certain herbs, plants, leaves & roots able to dye hair, but they can also fortify weakened strands, add shine and softness, balance the scalp's pH, rebalance oiliness, rehydrate dryness, and so, so much more.

khadi Natural Hair Color gives your hair an intense yet natural color. The plant pigments coat every strand of hair in a protective color glaze, strengthening your hair from root to tip. Choose to dye your full head of hair, dye just your roots, or create a new shade naturally without damaging your hair structure.

khadi hair colors are available in shades of blonde, brown, red and black. khadi cannot lighten your hair because herbal color does not penetrate into the hair shaft. Instead it mixes with your natural hair tone and creates a healthy and unique shade.

If you want to change, refresh or intensify your color, and strengthen and care for your hair while dying it, ditch the chemical hair dyes and try khadi Natural Hair Color. Our Ayurvedic formula and nourishing ingredients will make your hair shine with beautiful, shimmering color.

All khadi Natural Hair Colors are 100% certified natural and vegan. They don't contain any chemical additives or synthetic ingredients like silicone, ammonia and peroxide. They are developed according to European cosmetics standards and produced according to traditional Ayurvedic methods.

Our herbal hair colors are made only with plants and herbs. During production, we extract pigments from the plants in a complex, multi-step process. These natural pigmets dye your hair effectively and gently.

We source raw materials for our natural hair color from our own fields and from Indian farm cooperatives, and process them directly on site. The independent German Federation of Industrial and Trading Companies (BDIH) regularly inspect our products and ensures that the ingredients are of the highest quality.

Unlike the other methods described here, which achieve temporary color changes, the results of using lemon juice are permanent. The pigment on the portion of hair you apply lemon juice to will be gone. You can get rid of this lightened hair by cutting it off.

Traditional hair dyes are full of chemicals that can have toxic effects on your body. According to the American Cancer Society, both semipermanent and permanent oxidative hair dyes penetrate the hair shaft and can potentially increase cancer risk, particularly for bladder cancer and blood cancers like leukemia. However, more studies are needed.

The truth was far from it. The truth is for many people of color that peezy or nappy hair is our hair texture. What would happen to our individual and collective esteem if we did not grow up believing that fundamentally who we are is wrong or bad or ugly?

"Pure henna-based hair dye is natural and can be great for dandruff and/or scalp conditions," Dr. Lal says. This plant-based hair dye uses henna to color and moisturize your hair, while the formula's aloe vera and chamomile help to soothe your scalp. However, it does take a long time to apply, and many reviewers recommend putting an entire afternoon aside to ensure you get the color and coverage you want.

This long-lasting hair dye from Madison Reed includes virtually everything you need to expertly color your hair at home. The formula excludes eight of the most common hair dye irritants (including ammonia and PPD), and instead, it's spiked with hydrating and soothing ingredients like argan oil and ginseng root extract. So, yeah, you can actually feel good about this at-home hair dye.

Glowing Customer Review: "I have been coloring my hair for well over 20 years, and this product is a game-changer. The color is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! LOVE the results. No orange or brassiness at all. Everything is included. Simple directions with no smell/odor. I am blown away with the end results. This product is well worth every penny."

The coolest thing about this hair dye gel is that it's spiked with a ton of moisturizing and soothing ingredients (think: chamomile, shea butter, coconut oil) that help keep your hair soft and shiny throughout the dyeing process. Plus, it comes in 31 shades, so you're basically guaranteed to find a solid color match.

Glowing Customer Review: "I have never had such a pleasant experience dyeing my hair! This stuff smells great; no need for ventilation because there are no toxic fumes. It is very gentle on skin; no itchy burning sensations. And it did not even stain my skin; it washed right away in the shower! The color on my hair was just as vibrant when I washed it as it was during the application. I am super impressed with this amazing product. "

If you love the idea of bright hair colors but don't want to commit to the lengthy bleaching process, Mysteek's Color Pop is a great option. Rather than a dye, this hair wax offers temporary color that doesn't require any bleach. Just rub some of the bright wax between your fingers, coat your hair, and you're good to go. It only lasts up to five days (without washing your hair), but once it washes out, you'll be free to change up your look with another color!

Glowing Customer Review: "What better way to brighten your day than to add color to your hair!! I absolutely love being able to change my hair color without worrying if I'm damaging my hair! Comes right out with one wash. Great buy."

Surprise! Permanent hair color doesn't have to require a ton of potentially iffy chemicals, as evidenced by this clean formula from Schwarzkopf. The formula is free of ammonia, silicone, and alcohol, but it still provides you with rich, long-lasting color. Oh, and it's also got a handful of hydrators, like argan oil and oat milk.

Think of this gloss from dpHUE as part semi-perm hair dye, part deep conditioner. Formulated without ammonia or peroxide, the dye helps enhance and deepen your hair color while also deeply hydrating it. And though it's only available in a few shades, you can always mix 'em together (or dilute them with Sheer Gloss+) to create your ideal hue.

Certified organic ingredients like argan oil, chamomile, and coconut oil make this natural hair dye stand out among the rest. It's ammonia-free, cruelty-free, and even vegan, and it comes in a wide range of colors. It does, however, require a heat source to work, as the heat allows the ingredients in this dye to penetrate the hair, thus depositing color sans ammonia. The official instructions recommend using a heat cap or blow dryer to do the job.

Glowing Customer Review: "I researched healthier hair colors because I've been covering gray for 30+ years and my hair was fried. I'm losing less than a quarter of the hair I was before and the color looks great. It's downright glossy. Strangers stopped me twice the first time I used it to say how nice my hair looked! Yes, it takes about twice as long as other at home brands. Yes, you need the heat cap! Worth the investment."
