Freeware (not to be confused with free software) is
programming that is offered at no cost and is a common class of small
applications available for downloading and use in most operating
systems. Because it may be copyrighted, you may or may not be able to
reuse it in programming you are developing. The least restrictive "no-
cost" programs are un-copy righted programs that are in the public
domain. When reusing public domain software in your own programs, it's
good to know the history of the program so that you can be sure it
really is in the public domain.
Free software, a somewhat newer and unrelated concept, is
software that can be freely used, modified, and redistributed with
only one restriction: any redistributed version of the software must
be distributed with the original terms of free use, modification, and
distribution (known as copy left). The definition of free software is
stipulated as part of the GNU project and by the Free Software
Foundation. Unlike freeware, free software may be distributed for a
fee. Freeware is liable to be more limited in capability than free
software.

Example of freeware :

1. COMODO FIREWALL PRO
2. AVAST HOME EDITION
3. E. R. U. N. T
4. ULTIMATE BOOT CD FOR WINDOWS
5. FIREFOX
6. SPYWAREBLASTER
7. SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY
8. ULTIMATE BOOT CD
9. PSPAD
10. C CLEANER

Shareware is software that is distributed free on a trial
basis with the understanding that the user may need or want to pay for
it later. Some software developers offer a shareware version of their
program with a built-in expiration date (after 30 days, the user can
no longer get access to the program). Other shareware (sometimes
called liteware) is offered with certain capabilities disabled as an
enticement to buy the complete version of the program.
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it
after a reasonable evaluation period, you are expected to register.
Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using
the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few
specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are
accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good
programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and
distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific
group. For example, some authors require written permission before a
commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether
it is commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your
needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the
overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-
back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

Example of shareware :

1. PicMaster 4.0.4
2. AlfaClock2 2.41
3. 4Media MP4 to MP3 Converter 5.1.18.0116
4. CNC Code Shooter Lathe 2.1.2
5. NTFS Recovery Wizard 1.18.2
6. Pet Sitter 1.3
7. MDB Unlock for Access 1.4.2.7
8. Aiseesoft DVD Audio Ripper 3.3.22
9. Delayed Shutdown 2.02
10. ImTOO MOV Converter 5.1.18.0116

License software : Permission to use a software on non-
exclusive basis, and subject to the listed conditions. A software
license does not automatically transfer the ownership of the software
to the buyer and its purchase price, in effect, is a one time rental
fee.
Licensing software also allow an individual or group to
use a piece of software. Nearly all applications are licensed rather
than sold. There are a variety of different types of software
licenses. Some are based on the number machines on which the licensed
program can run whereas others are based on the number of users that
can use the program. Most personal computer software licenses allow
you to run the program on only one machine and to make copies of the
software only for backup purposes. Some licenses also allow you to run
the program on different computers as long as you don't use the copies
simultaneously.

Freeware

Freeware is computer software that is available for use with no cost
or for an optional fee.[1] Freeware is often made available in a
binary-only, proprietary form, thus making it distinct from free
software[2][3]. Freeware allows authors to contribute something for
the benefit of the community, while at the same time allowing them to
retain control of the source code, future direction of development and
preserve its business potential. Freeware is different from shareware,
where the user is obliged to pay (e.g. after some trial period or for
additional functionality).

Shareware

Software distributed on the basis of an honor system. Most shareware
is delivered free of charge, but the author usually requests that you
pay a small fee if you like the program and use it regularly. By
sending the small fee, you become registered with the producer so that
you can receive service assistance and updates. You can copy shareware
and pass it along to friends and colleagues, but they too are expected
to pay a fee if they use the product.
Shareware is inexpensive because it is usually produced by a single
programmer and is offered directly to customers. Thus, there are
practically no packaging or advertising expenses.
Note that shareware differs from public-domain software in that
shareware is copyrighted. This means that you cannot sell a shareware
product as your own.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/s/shareware.html

The term shareware, popularized by Bob Wallace[1], refers to
copyrighted commercial software that is distributed without payment on
a trial basis and is limited by any combination of functionality,
availability, or convenience. Shareware is often offered as a download
from an Internet website or as a compact disc included with a
periodical such as a newspaper or magazine. The aim of shareware is to
give buyers the opportunity to use the program and judge its
usefulness before purchasing a licence for the full version of the
software.
Shareware is usually offered as a trial version with certain features
only available after the licence is purchased, or as a full version,
but for a trial period. Once the trial period has passed the program
will not run until a licence is purchased. Shareware is often offered
without support, updates, or help menus, which only become available
with the purchase of a licence. The words "free trial", "trial
version" are indicative of shareware.
The term shareware is used in contrast to, retail software which
refers to commercial software available only with the purchase of a
licence which may not be copied for others, and public domain software
which refers to software not copyright protected, and Freeware which
refers to copyrighted software for which the author solicits no
payment (though he may request a donation).

License software

A software license (or software licence in commonwealth usage) is a
legal instrument governing the usage or redistribution of copyright
protected software. A typical software license grants an end-user
permission to use one or more copies of software in ways where such a
use would otherwise constitute infringement of the software
publisher's exclusive rights under copyright law. In effect, the
software license acts as a promise from the software publisher to not
sue the end-user for engaging in activities that would normally be
considered exclusive rights belonging to the software publisher.
Software licenses can generally be fit into the following categories:
proprietary licenses, free software licence, open source licenses. The
features that distinguishes them are significant in terms of the
effect they have on the end-user's rights.
