Iown an HP Laserjet p3015. It isn't new, but it is a great machine. Previously, I was always able to use the printer to print on both sides of the paper (duplex printing), but recently, when I got a new laptop, the driver that was automatically downloaded was for an HP Laserjet p3010. That driver doesn't permit me to do duplex printing. Can someone direct me for the driver that I need to do duplex printing on this printer?
I have searched for the appropriate driver, but the page that comes up ( -en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-enterprise-p3015-printer-series/3815797) shows 10 different files to download and I tried the first one [HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 (64-bit)], which when unzipped itself contained (as I recall) over 80 files, and that didn't fix the problem. Do I need to download all the files on this page ( -en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-enterprise-p3015-printer-series/3815797) and if I do, will it actually have the feature I am looking for, or is there a simpler way to fix this glitch?
We are printing to the printers using a dedicated VM print server running Win Server 2008 R2, from Win7 64-bit clients. Most of them are using the HP Universal Printing PS driver. The PCL6 driver seems to spit out PCL XL errors periodically, hence why we are not using that. We have tried various versions of the UPD PS driver and are still having the problem. This is occurring on a wide variety of hardware, including LJ 4200, LJ 4250, LJ P3015, CLJ 4600, and CLJ M551. Some of these printers can be used with machine-specific drivers from older OSes, but the P3015 and M551 only have the UPD available on the HP site.
Hello, folks - Trying to set up some HP printers on new or re-wiped computer installs - in this case, HP5200 DTNs and an HP p3015. Also, in our environment, we are using DNS names via IP printers - LPD. Not sure what the best way to go about this is, but here's what I've tried:
1) Snapshot an install and update of the printer, then deploy this as the driver, followed by printer captured by admin. Errors out.
2) Install driver package from Apple ( =en_US), followed by printer captured by admin. Complains that printer is installed incorrectly, requires download to fix it, but then works. But, the idea is to have it work out of the gate.
I go to the Apple support pages, find the latest driver DMG, download that file, mount the DMG, and then drag and drop the PKG file that is in the DMG into Casper Admin. I've had no problems with that method. I do not capture the driver using Composer or anything like that.
We ran into a similar issue when we were first developing our 10.10 image... Anytime I tried to use a network printer I would get the same errors you did. Ultimately, we just download Apple's HP and Canon PKG's (I believe they also provide an Epson package) directly off their support page and drop it into Casper Admin (similar to you snapshot packaging resulted in problematic results). We set them to install during the imaging process, but also include a Repair Disk Permissions script (diskutil repairPermissions /) to run "At Reboot". This seems to do the trick for us consistently. For some reason if you Repair Disk Permissions in the UI after manually installing Apple's package you also need to "Reset Printing System" and reboot. As something to try maybe add the printers using CUPS (see lpadmin man page) instead of Casper capturing? Likely, though your issues are with driver permissions and not the PPDs. Good luck!
Hmmm. I may try and snapshot the Apple install disk (as opposed to trying to snapshot the update process, which is what I was doing previously) as just dropping the HP PKG into Casper Admin generates a package that mounts, then unmounts, but doesn't actually install anything.
In my environment we send print jobs to an AD Print Server. I install the Apple HP 3.0 driver on a base image. Install the printer with the DNS Name of the print server and queue exactly as queue name on print server. I select the driver that was previously installed for the HP model printer. I then move printer to JSS with Casper Admin.
This works pretty darn good however I have one continued issue that I don't think has to do with my workflow. Over time something changes on the client machine, the driver get's dis-associated with the printer object on the machine. JSS shows printer (NO PPD) If I build the printer object in a policy and unmap old remap new it finds the driver existing on the client and works fine. If anyone has seen this or has ideas let me know. If I ever figure it out I'll update.

I have an HP LaserJet P3015 and can't seem to make it work with my iMac. HP Easy Start finds the computer, but then gives the following error: "We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product."
Looking online, I can't find the printer driver either. When I use the macOS internal printer setup the setup completes, but then I get the errors about malware/"... will damage your computer" that seem to have cropped up in the last few weeks.
Well, I don't have words to express my frustration; I've been using Ubuntu 14.04 with my HP LaserJet P3015 for some years now, and I didn't have a problem in the first year or so (on multiple machines). Then, as I also switched machines (on which I again installed Ubuntu 14.04), first I got into Printer first has status pending, then prints a blank page ; and now I cannot even print a test page on this machine (with a relatively fresh Ubuntu 14.04 install).
Anyways, at the end, the procedure that seemed to work for me was (this was using shorter USB cable plugged in USB2-only socket; and with old USB2 mouse+hub connected to the USB3 socket of the laptop):
So, I changed from: using the longer cable connected to USB3 - to: using the shorter cable connected to another, USB2-only, port on my laptop (had the printer turned off while changing cables); and once the printer was powered, suddenly the test page (which was stuck as a job in the queue) printed!
For one, I have an old wired USB mouse, and an old USB2 hub that I connect it to (which then goes to the laptop USB) - I've noticed, sometimes when this mouse is plugged in, and I attach some other USB device, the "discovery" messages in syslog actually list the mouse as being discovered again?! In any case, having the mouse and USB hub disconnected increased reliability a bit - but it seems they were not essential, as I got printing to work with them connected as well.
Also, I've noticed that the cups/backend/usb causes usblp0: removed and usblp 1-4:1.0: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer... to appear in syslog, meaning that command probably reinserts some kernel driver...
... and I guess this is the kind of error (basically, timeout) that I'd expect if Settings>Printers>Policies "Enabled" is not selected - which is what finally led me to the procedure at the top of this post...
If you have an HP LaserJet Enterprise P3015 series printer, you may want to download and update your HP LaserJet P3015 driver on your computer. Updating your printer driver brings you the best possible experience and resolves many printer issues.
3) Click the Update button next to a flagged HP LaserJet P3015 printer to automatically download the correct version of this driver, and then you can manually install it (you can do this with the FREE version).
If there is no automatic option when attempting to add the printer, then select the driver drop down list to see if there is an option for "GutenPrint" or "CUPS" driver, but if those options are not available, then select the "Generic PostScript Printer" driver or "Generic PCL Printer" driver.
If none of these options are listed, then you may need to install the CUPS driver using the CUPS web interface using a web browser. You will first need to enable the CUPS web interface using the Terminal app and the following command (press the "Return" key at the end of the line to execute the command):
When you click the "Add Printer" button you will be prompted to enter your macOS admin user name & password. It can sometimes be a little tricky adding some printers as you will need to know their DNS Name, IP Address, or possibly USB address/port number if the printer is not automatically seen.
For basic printing functionality use the Postscript PPD. For advanced functionality such as printer status, maintenance features, scanning and photo card unload use the HPLIP driver (which includes HPIJS).
Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.
In the Device Manager window, locate the device for which you want to install or update the driver. You can find devices under their respective categories, such as Display adapters, Sound, Video and Game Controllers, or Network adapters.
