What a day for a ride! Temperature in the 50s, and a strong wind out
of the south. I took off for Mt. Carmel, straight into the wind. It
was a struggle, but I got to the turn around control with about an
hour to spare. Just needed to get my receipt, and then I'd have a 20
mph wind at my back all the way home. I reached in the bag and
grabbed my perm card, then reached back in for the wallet. Uh oh, no
wallet in the bag. I checked my pockets, empty. Checked the rear
bag, not there either. At that point, there was only one thing to
do. I immediately launched into an expletive laced, self deprecating,
mental tirade. Once that was out of the way, I could think about how
to come up with some cash. Willy's Carb and Dyno shop is just a few
blocks from the control. I've a couple friends who work there, and
they work weekends when it's busy. Racing season just started, so
they're busy. I rode over, borrowed some cash, went back to the
control, got my receipt. Now to worry about the wallet. I called my
wife and asked her to drive to the start control to see if I left it
there - I hadn't. I decided that I would just keep an eye out for it
on my way back to Olney. As I was riding, I remembered having the
wallet in my vest pocket, and transferring it to my front bag, about
two blocks from the start. Maybe I had fumbled the transfer. Another
call to my wife, and a few minutes later I get a text message - wallet
rescued from pot hole. Great! Now I could enjoy the easy ride back to
Olney. Nothing else eventful occurred, and after I got my receipt and
card signed at the closing control, I still felt good, so I went and
rode another 26 miles to make it an even 100. Hope you all got a ride
in too.

> Hey Ben. Why not submit a route following the exact same roads, but from Mt. Carmel to Olney and back? That's what I've done with my Marion - Woodlawn perm. I also own a Woodlawn - Marion version. Since it's an out and back, you can't "reverse" it, but you can submit it as a new route in the reverse direction. That way, I could meet you in Mt. Carmel and ride to Olney and back with you. We'd both have about the same drive time.
