I got a new permanent populaire route approved today, and I'm planning
to ride it on Sunday. It's 119k (about 74 miles), out and back
starting in Olney and turning around Mt. Carmel. If anyone wants to
ride let me know. Start time will probably be 8 or 9, but I'm
flexible on that if anyone wants to start earlier or later. I know
you don't have school on Sundays Doug, so come on up if you don't have
anything else to do.

Hey Ben.  Why not submit a route following the exact same roads, but from Mt. Carmel to Olney and back?  That's what I've done with my Marion - Woodlawn perm.  I also own a Woodlawn - Marion version.  Since it's an out and back, you can't "reverse" it, but you can submit it as a new route in the reverse direction.  That way, I could meet you in Mt. Carmel and ride to Olney and back with you.  We'd both have about the same drive time.

Go Big or Go Home.

What a day for a ride! Temperature in the 50s, and a strong wind out
of the south. I took off for Mt. Carmel, straight into the wind. It
was a struggle, but I got to the turn around control with about an
hour to spare. Just needed to get my receipt, and then I'd have a 20
mph wind at my back all the way home. I reached in the bag and
grabbed my perm card, then reached back in for the wallet. Uh oh, no
wallet in the bag. I checked my pockets, empty. Checked the rear
bag, not there either. At that point, there was only one thing to
do. I immediately launched into an expletive laced, self deprecating,
mental tirade. Once that was out of the way, I could think about how
to come up with some cash. Willy's Carb and Dyno shop is just a few
blocks from the control. I've a couple friends who work there, and
they work weekends when it's busy. Racing season just started, so
they're busy. I rode over, borrowed some cash, went back to the
control, got my receipt. Now to worry about the wallet. I called my
wife and asked her to drive to the start control to see if I left it
there - I hadn't. I decided that I would just keep an eye out for it
on my way back to Olney. As I was riding, I remembered having the
wallet in my vest pocket, and transferring it to my front bag, about
two blocks from the start. Maybe I had fumbled the transfer. Another
call to my wife, and a few minutes later I get a text message - wallet
rescued from pot hole. Great! Now I could enjoy the easy ride back to
Olney. Nothing else eventful occurred, and after I got my receipt and
card signed at the closing control, I still felt good, so I went and
rode another 26 miles to make it an even 100. Hope you all got a ride
in too.

Hello riders, Gale and I rode 44 miles, half in our face the other half in our backs, we didn't start the ride until 1 pm and the temp was 58.
Ben I'm glad you have friends in Mt Carmel, sounds like a stressful day in the saddle.  Hopefully we'll make the ride next weekend!

WOW!  I would have been beside myself if I'd have lost my wallet.  I have lost my phone before, and gratefully found it, but my wallet?!  Sounds like a great day.
