Paying close attention to what the error says, if possible, is the best way to address it. If the error is too general to diagnose right off the bat, then follow the below steps in order. If it's particular, however, and mentions something like Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library, then that's the step you should start at.
Some uninstallers don't do a great job at erasing every remnant of the file from the registry and hard drive. Try a dedicated program uninstaller if the normal tool from the app maker doesn't fix the error.
With Internet Explorer shut down for good, you won't be able to update the browser to try and fix the problem. However, if you insist on using IE rather than moving to a new web browser, check your Adobe Acrobat plugin as it may contain an error. Update Acrobat Reader if possible, or reinstall it and try opening the PDF again.
First, verify that the problem is Chrome by attempting to visit the website giving you the error in a different web browser. If Chrome is the problem, clear out the cookies for that site in Chrome, restart the browser, then visit the website again. If the problem persists, check Chrome for updates.
Thank you so much. That is useful. But do you know if a syntax error is also a run-time error? How do you define run-time error? I have read about it online, but I would like to hear from a reliable source.
A syntax error is not a run time error. Syntax errors are like typos, when the interpreter or compiler cannot understand the command. For example, ver I = 0 is a syntax error, because var is misspelled. Another example of a syntax error is when you forget to close a brace in a for loop
I don't understand what happened here. I tried solving the problem but with no luck. Then I searched the runtime error on google and it said it might be the compatibility. I wrote the original script on windows vista with the downloaded version of the windows 7 python 2.6. I did this because the windows vista had no internet so I downloaded the python, pygame and cx_freeze .msi files on my windows 7 laptop. Then I transferred the files to the desktop windows vista. Is this the problem? Or maybe the script? I don't think its the script as I can play the game when it is still a python script. Its a bit long though... I running windows 7 with python 2.6, pygame 2.6 and cx_freeze 4.3. Thanks if you can help me :).
This is meant to be a way to stop the program if there is a type of error that the program interpreter has not detected, but is capable of causing the program to not function as it has to. An example of when a runtime error is required is this function (a wrapper for the termcolor cprint function that takes a number as its color argument):
In this circumstance, the function will fail to run properly or inform the user of any kind of error if the color argument is not 1 or 2. The way to solve this, and make your program easier to use, is a runtime error (or larger libraries will create their own custom exceptions, this is not important). Basically, because an argument other than 1 or 2 is in fact an error in your program (that python won't catch and raise for you), it will raise an error for the user to diagnose. Here is the new and better version of the function:
Now, if the user makes a mistake, the program will catch this as an error, instead of failing to function or doing something unexpected, which would make it difficult to diagnose (and in some cases potentially vulnerable). This is why a runtime error is useful.
I have re-installed Visilogic 9.3.0 twice as per the removal procedure in this forum with no luck correcting the issue, to make things worse this function works fine accessing the same project on a collegues computer hence I am thinking something has fallin over in my puter.
It was down to the UA Content. Thanks to further searching on this forum. some how the UA content on my machine had been reset to default. Turning this feature off in Windows 7 has remedied this problem.
Hi, sorry for replying to such an old post but I am having similar issues (Get OPLC information works but when trying to get on-line I get the runtime error '5' message) on Windows 10/64 bit Using Unitronics Remote Access v 9.8.10.
However, some of the elements are not being displayed and instead show a red "X" (like temperature gauge displays but even simple buttons, see screenshot). Are they incompatible with Win 10 or do I simply need to download them? If so, what and where?
W10 has dropped many abilities in the Compatibility settings, and I had similar nightmares on a heap of older ( and not so old ) programs in getting them to display things correctly. Really dumb stuff like some, but not all, control buttons in my CAD program appearing upside down, sideways or not there at all!
The solution is that the missing controls still work, you just have to do registry entries to make it so...another case of "the genius gang at Msoft has done it again!!" In my case, the relevant thing that no longer appears in W10 was "Disable visual themes".
The registry entry is this, but note that I have simply pasted my reg entry for my program here, only slightly modified it, so it will need to be tweaked for your instance of Remote Access......or whatever other program you might need it for in the future:
The C path needs to be correct. If you have already done a compatibility setting then you will likely find an entry here already. You just need to add in the DisableThemes bit. Note in my example the other controls that I have in place as well.....run as admin, as W98 etc.
If you get this right, and it is indeed the problem, magically everything will come back to normal. It is simply amazing to see it happen from such a small registry entry, when you have been lead to believe that all your expensive programs have been reduced to pieces of garbage....and you need to update....often to something that doesn't do your particular job anywhere near as well.

Interestingly, I am getting exactly the same error message on Windows 10 today, and a Google search on runtime error "crt not initialized" "dropboxupdate.exe" brought me to this page. Never encountered this error before.

This has been happening to me for several months. I tried to reinstall the dropbox app several times and didn't resolve the problem. I looked everywhere on google, but so far no answer. I doesn't happen all the time I turn on on the PC, but often enough to be really annoying.
After sometime without use when I started debugging the project the P&E Multilink ACP began updating itself. Since then, whenever I try to debug it shows "Connection closed by the GDB server." and popup Runtime error 216 at ...
Hi!
If someone is still looking for answers on this topic, maybe this will help.
I have a custom board with MXRT1024 and a development kit with MXRT1021. I tried the example on my evaluation board and everything worked well. Then I tried to program my custom board with PE Micro debug probe and got the error "RUNTIME ERROR 216". After seeing this post I noticed that have the wrong MCU selected. After changing the MCU to MXRT1024 everything worked well.
So just a reminder to choose the right MCU first! Always check the basics
Hello
currently i am trying to build a Tower Defense Game but unfortunatly the game every time i start it gives shortly after a error "Runtime Error stacksize 8mb"
I tried solving that issue for many hours but nothing worked i always got that error (I thought maybe there were just too many things running at the same time so i also tried making timers a lot slower but that didnt worked)
I couldnt find a solution in the Internet or what causes it (I even deinstalled the game and restarted my phone as mentioned in an other forum post but that didnt worked either)
I am using a lot of -to procedure do- and -call procedure- i read somewhere else that there is a limit on how many times you can call a procedure but i dont know how trustworthy that is
if that is true is there a way to increase or remove that limit?
The entire game runs on one screen (but i have two empy screens) and i am only using two pictures at the moment (picture of blue and black) (i want to do the graphics when the code is finished) so i dont think that the pictures are the issue
I discovered that the error appears when enemys spawn so either there is something wrong with displaying a 20x20 pixel image, the enable feature of sprites, or procedures and calling them
I cant imaginge that something else causes that problem because when i made my first tower defense game everthing worked fine and now in version 2.0 i worked with those things and the error appears
I am using three timers that tick very fast (intervall of 10, 50 and 100) They are not the issue because i changed them and it still gave me the error
and i am pretty sure that i dont have any loop in my code but in a second i can look
