Nokia C5 Internet Connection Settings

Theinternet connection is shared by many functions on your phone such as internet browsing, receiving email messages and installing apps. You can access the internet as soon as you've inserted your SIM. If this isn't the case, you can set up your phone for internet manually.

It used to be possible on an older WinXP notebook. I have tried many times with Win10-64, with various 'suites' and extra drivers, but never quite got there. I wasn't really sure what the cause is - but I would I assume the main problem are the 64 bit.


And mind you, all of you trained to react with 'smartphone' or 'hotspot': That is not desired. These european systems, as mobile ISDN subsystems, can handle ISDN-able appliances - like a modem (to which then a notebook is connected).


Then, I watch the phone's tiny Bluetooth status icon, as good as I can without a magnifying glass. I see it comes on, and then my impression is it tries to connect: The right half of the icon flashes for a second, then goes off again and remains so. I assume this means there is no active connection then? From suite operations, I know how an active connection icon looks.


The following might make limited sense only with a non-functional Bluetooth link, yet sitting here focussed on solving this problem, I go to the Bluetooth page in Win10 and find my 2 Nokia E5 listed - see photo. Intending to make a new clean start, I opt for removing them, but find it cannot be done: After some seconds of apparent trying, 'error on removing' is the system's response.


At the bottom of the Bluetooth page in Win10, there are no 'related settings' for me. Maybe it comes on during an active link? But then I see I can get there via the control panel. But there is no dialup connection in the context menu for the phone.


And again while we're at it, I find there is seemingly no 'paired devices' instance in my Nokia E5. What I do is go to control panel > settings > connection > Bluetooth, and all I see are these 4 items: Bluetooth (on/off), phone visibility, phone name, remote SIM mode.


Addendum: In order to possibly further pin down the causes (not certain - it might add confusion), I checked my limited collection of older/semi-useful phones and chose a Zenfone Z007. There I can connect the Win10-64 notebook and readily access the internet (3G) without any problems (there are reasons not to make this a permanent solution). Bluetooth, however, does not permit me to connect to 3G internet, although successfully paired.


It's embarrassing. Despite having a $40 metal-braided, multi-tipped cord with amazing mall-metal jacks that works for charging, for tethering it wouldn't. Trying the $3 cord I had the same effect, I discovered it was the cord. That's all.


The expensive cord obviously isn't made to do anything but charge, and the cheap factory cord was simply defective. (When I wiggled the wire where it goes into the hack, my phone beeped and all the charging/tethering options appeared.)


When you connect your phone to the PC with a USB, a message will pop up on your phone "Allow access to device data - An MTP connection will be established to access the data on the connected device - DENY ALLOW " (Please note this message did not pop up prior to the software update...which means the phone was directly connected to the PC via USB)


I was using a USB connection on the front of the PC house, it seems it's only connected with power because the phone didn't connect to it. As soon as I plugged it in to the back of the house onto the motherboard's backpanel, everything worked.


For years I used my phone (with Android v12) as a backup connection to the internet (and you know - airports...). Today I connected my phone to the laptop with my factory-default cable and tried to enable tethering - but the USB Tethering button in the menu was disabled.


This turned out to be a hardware issue. Tried a couple of cables, but they were all the same. After removing the phone from its case and blowing in the connector and trying again it showed up. Presumably the charging pins were OK but there was some crud on the data pins (or maybe the case was not letting the plug go all the way in).


I also found that sometimes it takes long to send a picture, so I turn off my mobile data and then turn it on again and it almost always sends the MMS after.



Honestly though, I probably won't be sending many MMS with this phone for obvious reasons, but as long as I can access the internet and download MMS, I'm good.

The comment mentioned earlier with the access point information is almost correct but you must remove the gateway on the regular "Public Mobile" access point for Internet. And have that one activated for phone data use. The "Public Mobile MMS" one is correct and should only be activated inside the messages portion to activate MMS texting.


By having your system access point setting to Public Mobile, and your Messages pointed to Public Mobile MMS access point you will enjoy both MMS and use of Opera Mini for surfing. I can confirm I have both working on my Nokia 3310 3G Single Sim Model TA-1036 without issue.


But, I did change the message settings to Public Mobile MMS as well, but since then have lost my internet connectivity. Picture messages don't send either. I've tried variations of the settings since then, but I think I might just reset it to factory default and start over, see if I missed a dot here or a click there lol.


I've found that the Nokia 3310 3G is just finicky with its data. I haven't been able to get the internet and the MMS running in tandem since I got it. That said, I found that changing the highlighted network in the network settings changes things. Also, if you set the network to manual and select Public Mobile, the MMS works.


Oddly, with these settings I can access the internet, but can't send picture messages? Unsure why that would be! I'll keep trying to figure it out, I thought maybe the phone just wasn't MMS capable but that can't be so if other people are managing to make it happen!


I have no idea what I did differently, but the following settings finally got it working, although my internet seems to be gone now... Here's my settings on the Nokia 3310 3G (Model TA-1036) for anyone else who tries to connect from now on.


@JCjr My phone is the single sim version. Model is TA-1036. I think it's a bit newer or something. I tried the reset, but all that did was shove on the TELUS presets on the SIM that don't let me even receive MMS. Still having trouble sending the MMS after following your suggestion. That said, internet is working now. Still no luck sending pictures.


Do you have custom APN settings in your phone? If you have a Public Mobile SIM, it should have default APN settings that would work for you. Try resetting your APN settings to the default so that it uses what's in the SIM.


If it still doesn't work, double check to make sure mobile data connection is on and/or your WiFi connection is enabled, depending on how you want to get your data. You'll need a data plan or data add-on for your service if you're using mobile data, of course. You can check your plan on the Public Mobile account page.


Ok, so have a Nokia X10 5G phone, been migrated from Virgin to O2, and looking to access the wifi calling that my handset is capable of. According to my O2 account, wifi calling is switched on, but I am unable to find how to access it on my Nokia. Apparently I am supposed to go to the 'settings' > 'network & internet' > 'advanced' > 'wifi calling' and toggle 'on'.


To be honest, not had the time at the moment, as have more pressing problem in that signal is rubbish around my area, more so since I was ported from VM (Yes, I know they were using O2, and things 'shouldn't be different' ) having real problems getting any sort of decent signal, and regards internet access, regularly getting the 'no internet' message, most of the time. Phone struggles to get 4G most of the time, and has fallen back to 3G recently.


Tried sim in another handset, and same problem, yet a '3' sim I have, works fine in the Nokia X10 which 'should' be OK as its a recent phone, whilst the O2 (ex VM sim) drops signal and data frequently.


Been to the Bournemouth Air Show all weekend, down by the beach. Unable to access internet at all, during the whole weekend. Repeated 'no internet' or 'offline' (when I am not!) O2 signal checker states I have full 4G, and 5G where I am located, yet, I have no internet?? (I can actually only access internet in 25% of Bournemouth/Poole area where I live, since the VM to O2 swap. When VM were with EE it was 90%, with Voda it was 60% now with O2, 25% which is next to useless!!)


Had this since Thursday evening. So, late this afternoon, fed up with paying for something I can't use, popped into the local O2 shop on my way home. Spoke to the assistant, went through the various scenarios, showed him the phone actually trying to access the internet, he did a reset, no change. He then asked the phone make/model. (Nokia X105G) checks up on his tablet... apparently it's not supported by O2???


Talking poo I've too use to be virgin mobile till was offered by vm to swap to O2 they sent me new phone new sim and I still can't get free WiFi and yes have done all things told to do too not sure what I can do cause the phone is a contract phone and will be paying it off for about 2 years
