If you're a regular user of Steam to supply yourself with all the best PC games you may also be interested in checking out new features coming to the client ahead of time. Steam has a great beta program that sees regular updates, with shiny new stuff hitting this channel before making it into the stable client.
The even better news is that it's not a secret beta program limited to select, lucky people. Anyone who uses Steam can check out the beta client at any time, and revert back to the stable client if they're not happy. Here's how to do it.
The Steam client is essentially the same across Windows, Mac, and Linux, with platform-specific features as required. The Steam beta client is available to use on any platform, and getting your hands on it is the same whichever you use.
Once rebooted you'll now have the Steam beta client staring back at you. It should be said, too, that even though it's a beta it is usually quite stable. Sometimes things will break, but if this becomes an issue you can easily revert back to the regular stable client.
To do this, follow the same steps as above, but when you get to step 6, choose NONE - opt out of all beta programs. Again, once accepted, Steam will reboot and download the latest version of the stable client for you to use instead. This also means you can easily switch back and forth if you just want to check out something new without committing to using the beta client long term.
When trying to download a GoldSrc mod like TFC, initially it only downloads the engine files of the HLDS, but not the mod. This is caused by appmanifest files not downloading correcly. This happens with both the regular version and the beta. You may have to try multiple times until all the required files are downloaded, but once this is done, the files should update correctly next time.

I used to have Testlive in Steam favorite as I tested Isle of Siptah for several months before the official launch and reported bugs as I was seeing them. I am retired and have plenty of time to play, test and report bugs. Right now Testlive is missing from steam and I would like to know how to get this running and back in my favorites. I try the Properties of Conan, Beta tab but there is nothing to choose beside None option. I have plenty of room on my PC so a full install again is not an issue. Help in setting this up would be appreciated.
Thanks Glurin but I do not have an Uncategorized Section in my library as I moved everything from there a while back to another section and no it is not there. just wondering how to trigger the download/install of the Testlive Client. Also when I look in my steam directory the Testlive is there but an old version probably Siptah from way back when.
After testing it does seem pretty good, locking it to 60 @ 120hz i turn motion smoothing off still as it still looks horrid to me but its all very smooth & nice at 60fps without it. I pushed up the steam SS to 180. Unfortunately my CPU is a bottleneck & any traffic or missions kill the fun, so i still have to wait forever for my hardware to arrive. .
The X-Plane beta updates are for users who want to help test the newest refinements to the X-Plane software. The advantage to doing so is that these users get access to the latest enhancements to the software (flight model refinements, new features, etc.). The downside is that there is a greater risk of encountering problems with third-party models or other general bugs.
If you already have the beta, X-Plane will prompt you when new betas become available. If you have a released non-beta build, you will not be notified until the new patch is finalized and out of testing.
If you installed it through the deb that's floating around, you can just find it in the Software Center. After uninstalling, check your homefolder for the folders Steam and .steam which you can remove to get rid of it completely (including games).

Help developers test beta versions of their apps and App Clips using the TestFlight app. Download TestFlight on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Watch, and iMessage. Apple Vision Pro will already have TestFlight installed.
Each build is available to test for up to 90 days, starting from the day the developer uploads their build. You can see how many days you have left for testing under the app name in TestFlight. TestFlight will notify you each time a new build is available and will include instructions on what you need to test. Alternatively, with TestFlight 3 or later, you can turn on automatic updates to have the latest beta builds install automatically.
When the testing period is over, you'll no longer be able to open the beta build. To install the App Store version of the app, download or purchase the app from the App Store. In-app purchases are free only during beta testing, and any in-app purchases made during testing will not carry over to App Store versions.
Note: To automatically download additional in-app content and assets in the background once a beta app is installed in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13, turn on Additional In-App Content in your App Store settings for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
You can send feedback through the TestFlight app or directly from the beta app or beta App Clip by taking a screenshot, and you can report a crash after it occurs. If you were invited to test an app with a public link, you can choose not to provide your email address or other personal information to the developer. Apple will also receive all feedback you submit and will be able to tie it to your Apple ID.
If your device is running iOS 12.4 or earlier, tap Send Beta Feedback to compose an email to the developer. The feedback email contains detailed information about the beta app and about your iOS device. You can also provide additional information, such as necessary screenshots and steps required to reproduce any issues. Your email address will be visible to the developer when you send email feedback through the TestFlight app even if you were invited through a public link.
When you take a screenshot while testing a beta app or beta App Clip, you can send the screenshot with feedback directly to the developer without leaving the app or App Clip Experience. Developers can opt out of receiving this type of feedback, so this option is only available if the developer has it enabled.
When you test beta apps or beta App Clips with TestFlight, Apple will collect and send crash logs, your personal information such as name and email address, usage information, and any feedback you submit to the developer. Information that is emailed to the developer directly is not shared with Apple. The developer is permitted to use this information only to improve their App and is not permitted to share it with a third party. Apple may use this information to improve the TestFlight app and detect and prevent fraud.
When you send feedback through TestFlight or send crash reports or screenshots from the beta app, the following additional information is shared. This information is collected by Apple and shared with developers. Apple retains the data for one year.
With the beta release, support was added for devices with AMD Ryzen 5000 C-series and Intel 12th-gen Core CPUs. Minimum CPU requirements were also lowered to include Core i3 and Ryzen 3 processors and 8GB of RAM. Google still recommends an i5 or Ryzen 5 and 16GB of RAM for the best experience. There are now 20 Chromebook models officially supported for Steam on ChromeOS.
If you have one of these Chromebooks, you can access the beta-quality version of Steam on ChromeOS. You'll have to switch to the Beta channel which is a snap to do. Open the settings menu on your Chromebook and search for "Channels" at the top of the window. Click on Channels and select Beta. The Chromebook will start to download the beta version of ChromeOS. Once the update is downloaded and installed, you'll then need to restart the Chromebook and it will be in the Beta channel (ChromeOS 108 or later). You're now just two steps away from getting Steam.
Steam's big public beta includes a revamped game overlay and notifications system. One system lets you use a whole new notes app, which you can use to record info about your game that'll be synced across your Steam clients. Great for those of us who like to keep a to-do list for their gaming. There's also a brand new toolbar and game overview in there.
The big one for many is the new transparent window overlay system. That lets you pin windows from the overlay so that they'll appear on top of the game while you're in-game, with adjustable opacity. You can use that to keep notes or a guide over your game while you play, or... just watch movies. The system for notifications and the screenshot manager have also been reworked to be quite a bit nicer. Hardware acceleration also works for Mac and Linux users now, which is a good reason to try out this beta.
The existing beta testers have been invaluable, says Valve, producing some great tweaks to the in-progress features. Those include a spell check toggle and cloud sync for game notes, a find-in-page (that's your classic "ctrl-f") for the web browser, soundtrack controls, enhancements to the controller configurator, and a "large hill of bug fixes" next to a "medium-sized hill of visual fixes and improvements."
I don't think the software version (beta or not) has anything to do with the version of the scenery ... but, sooner or later you'll need to update the scenery either way, and there will be further scenery updates (hopefully not that large though for those who don't have the bandwidth) throughout the life of XP12. So rolling back to non-beta will have no useful purpose, and you may as well get the scenery update over with.
