Hi I compare current and previous versions of my leo file and the difference are the addition of  Attribute a="E" in several places:

<v t="rcleoroot.20111026143120.2664" a="E"><vh>To Do List</vh>

what does this Attribute mean ?

thanks

I think it marks nodes which are expanded. Possibly without having
all their ancestors expanded, so it might look like the whole tree is
collapsed, but you may still have some of those hidden in branches.

Correct. To suppress these bits, use::

@bool put_expansion_bits_in_leo_files = False
