Maybe it's just because I tend to use editors that work this way by default, I've never run into line ending issues before, but colleagues have started complaining to me about my files (good ol' Notepad). Or if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know - I've recently started experimenting with Terry's active_path, but I don't believe that's an issue.

I would like a "meta" setting to control Leo's line-ending munging, so that I can choose either

  - whatever the line endings are on a pre-existing file should be respected when I edit and save the file
or (current behaviour)
  - Leo should always apply my "hardcoded" choice, auto-converting all files it outputs, including pre-existing ones

Side note:

I suppose this would also lead to someone wanting commands to explicitly switch a file from one to the other
    - or hey, what about a directive like @language that can apply only to specific different branches?

(goes to search in the various .leo files)

Aha! @lineending - but this appears to only apply to the reST stuff, which I haven't delved into yet - possible to generalize this?

As discussed at:

http://webpages.charter.net/edreamleo/directives.html#part-5-all-other-directives

@lineending applies everywhere. There is also @string output_newline
setting for setting defaults.

Let me know if @lineending doesn't work in some situation.

Thanks Edward.

This option remains unavailable correct?

  - whatever the line endings are on a pre-existing file should be respected unless explicitly changed

Obviously the explicit choice being available at different point in the outline structures is great, but it does create a bit of extra work, and may be another point of fragility with cloning (albeit a non-critical one).

I guess the main issue for me is that I've never worked with an editor that required me to even be aware of what the line endings may be, at least not for cross-platform files where it makes a difference - for example, jEdit behaves this way out of the box. . .

If this is the case, may I log it as a wishlist?

Yes. Please do.
