Under the File menu item I see 'Open With ... >' and then a selection for IDLE

But when I select this, I do not understand what should happen   I have a node highlighted  for a  .py file, which I assumed would then open in a IDLE window, but I only see a message in the log window that a LeoTemp file has been created.

Reading the group posts, I thought the openwith plugin is no longer needed and open with should now work -- I am using the snapshot from 5-29-2012.

Do I need to create a @openwith command or should the File menu's IDLE selection work 'as is'?

My apologies for not answering this question.  It's been almost a year.

The Open With menu items are supposed to open the selected node in an external editor.  So if you select Open With Idle, Python's Idle debugger does indeed open with the body text of the selected node sent to the "editor".  For editors like Scite, this means that an unnamed file is opened containing the contents of the Leo node.

The File:Open With:Idle commands works as expected for me, but it looks like I have modified the following node in leoSettings.leo in my copy of myLeoSettings.leo::

   @settings-->Menus-->Open With menu

There may have been changes, in code or docs, since you asked your question.  Please feel free to ask more questions.  I promise I'll answer promptly this time.
