PR #4779 is now in Leo's "devel" branch

​PR #4779 is the latest in a series of pull requests that improve Leo's API.

As with the previous PRs, this PR is, without any doubt, an important step forward, even if (as is possible) it introduces a bug or two.

For the adventurous, please continue to test the "devel" branch and report any problems. I have been eating my own dog food all along as I develop these PRs.
