I have been thinking lately about transitions. I used to think of transitions as merely something to be "got through." Now, they seem an important component of productivity and even happiness.

Our everyday routines are full of transitions--between sleep and wakefulness, work and meals, work and play, etc. The more chores I do during transitions, the more I accomplish overall. So the longer transitions take, the more productive they can become. Less detritus accumulates on my to-do list.

Transitions also have a vital role to play in large projects such as Leo. As I think back on the sabbatical, I see that its main benefit was a transition away from stale programming chores. I put many issues on hold. Many issues will never get done.

Freed from these chores, I continued to work on Leo with renewed enthusiasm and energy.

Now Leo faces another transition--the transition to vs-code. I have begun this transition by making vs-code look and act just as I want. This personal transition will likely take a week or two. Adapting leoInteg and Leo to each other may take years. That's fine with me.

A few more thoughts:

I use post-it notes during transitions from work. I don't want to go back to my computer :-)

Transitions can be a source of relaxation. The relaxation leads to the ideas that lead to post-it notes.

The main thing in any transition, big or small, is to be patient and not to rush. What's the point in thinking "Oh, I'll relax later".  Later often never comes. We all know that our time here is limited. Why not relax and enjoy it?

The transition to leoInteg 1.0 and Leo 6.4 has been on mind a lot lately. Yes, it's going to happen soonish, but a delay of a day or so won't make any difference. It's good to keep reminding myself :-)
