Dear lenstronomy community,
We are happy to announce that lenstronomy has been conditionally accepted to become an affiliated package of NumFOCUS.
Becoming an affiliated package of NumFOCUS opens up opportunities to get advice and implementation of software development governing structure and support within an ecosystem of successful scientific software packages that strive for long-term support.
The Affiliated Project Selection Committee has agreed to accept lenstronomy with the condition that the project addresses the following recommendations within a 6-month time period:
"This project is overall in excellent shape, but the committee is a bit concerned that it is slipping into having a bus factor of one. The committee has voted to grant conditional approval, with the condition that we start to see more activity from other maintainers."
We will work with the NumFOCUS team early next year to lay out a plan and then implement a structure that allows for a sustainable structure (and not reliant on a single person). This may likely involve a call for people on this mailing list to become more active and visible on the development team 😉.
We are excited to work with the NumFOCUS team and the conditional acceptance as an affiliated package is a testimony of the last few years towards a more community development process thanks to all of you who contributed to lenstronomy and an excitement step toward a sustainable long-term support plan.
Thank you very much for all your contributions over the last year!
We are looking forward to working with all of you in the next year and wish you Happy and restful Holidays!
The lenstronomy core developer team
