Hi all,

I noticed that in Lenstool version 6.8, one has to provide both the redshifts of the lens and the source when using the “mass” identifier in “runmode” section, unlike what is written in the Lenstool manual (for version 6.5). Are the following sentences the correct way to make the maps of convergence and shear?
mass   1  pix_num    zlens    zsource     kappa.fits
shear  1  pix_num   zsource  gamma.fits

Then how do they compare to the following sentences which, based on the manual, seem to do exactly the same thing?
ampli  5  pix_num  zsource  kappa.fits
ampli  6  pix_num  zsource  gamma.fits

Thanks!

Best regards,
Xin Wang

Hi Xin

Ampli 5 and ampli 6 will give you the convergence and the shear with Dls/Ds=1.
Shear 1 is giving you the shear map for a given source redshift, and Mass 1 gives you the absolute mass density.
Are you sure about the zsource keyword in mass ? Im using mass 3 most of the time, and the lens tool version I have is the latest one, I have never used a zsource .
The mass keyword will use, if any zsource, the zsource set up in the source section I think..

Hope this helps, and please correct me if I m wrong.

Cheers
Mathilde

Hi Xin,

Same as Mathilde here. You only use the z_lens redshift when running the keyword "mass".
Note that the "z_source" keyword used in "ampli 5" and "ampli 6" is useless as it is always computed at DLS/DS=1.
