SANTA CLARA, Calif., (May 13, 2005) - Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. today announced "Sniper EliteTM." Developed in the UK by Rebellion, "Sniper Elite" is a realistic World War II sniper simulation. The game plunges players behind enemy lines on an undercover mission to divert Atomic weapon research from the advancing Soviet Army. Featuring authentic sniping mechanics and four offline and online game modes, "Sniper Elite" will be available on the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox video game system and PC in the fourth quarter of 2005.
Sniper Elite is a tactical shooter video game series, developed by Rebellion Developments, an English computer and console game developer based in Oxford, England. It is a third-person tactical shooter that emphasizes a less direct approach to combat, encouraging the player as a sniper to use stealth and keep distance from enemy soldiers.
First off is a very personal, one on one take on the Second World War. Published by Namco and available on the Xbox, PC, and PS2 is Sniper Elite. The game is set in Berlin during the spring of 1945. Against a backdrop of Russians and Germans streetfighting for control of the city, the player takes the role of a veteran American soldier, trained as a sniper by the OSS. Reports that the Russian secret service (NKVD) is in Berlin looking for atomic bomb technology has the Allied intelligence commanders worried. Taking the role of the best of an elite unit, the leaders assign the player to stop the NKVD and to get the bomb secrets for the Allies. Donning a German disguise and working alone, the player infiltrates hostile enemy environments using stealth and sniping skills.
Sniper Elite is a third-person action strategy game with a focus on sniping. The player takes on the role of an American agent working for the OSS (the organization that later became the CIA) stationed in Berlin at the end of World War II, tasked with preventing the Russian troops from getting hold of the research Germany had been conducting into nuclear weaponry. As an elite sniper, the style of play is much less run-and-gun and much more about finding good positions, lining up shots and taking out the enemy before he even knows where you are.
