Hi,
this is a friendly reminder that the deadline for student proposals for
this year's Google Summer of Code is Friday, May 3rd, 19:00 UTC.
If you are planning to apply and have not submitted your proposal yet,
I suggest putting up a draft on Melange [1] as soon as possible so that
mentors can comment and suggest improvements. Once a proposal is
submitted, it is possible to modify it until the deadline.
Follow the "students: apply!" link on the GSoC organization page to
submit your proposal:

We expect proposals to contain as much information as possible to
demonstrate that the student understands the project and is capable of
realizing it through the summer. In particular, this includes a
timeline, a detailed list of tasks with a schedule of estimated
completion dates. For most projects, you will need help from a mentor
to get this right.
If you have not started talking to a mentor about the timeline, please
do so right now!
Note that the mentors can leave comments on proposals, suggest
improvements or ask for clarification of certain points. The discussion
that takes place on the mailing lists and responses to these comments,
which can continue after the application deadline, are an essential
part of our assessment.
Another vital step in the application process is the code sample,
which is due on Friday, May 10th. This is required to show that you are
comfortable using the tools needed for the project. The sample should
address an issue suggested by the mentors. Members of the community and
mentors can review and comment on the patch easily if it is submitted
through the issue tracker of the corresponding project. (On github for
FLINT, LELA; trac for Sage; bitbucket for lmonade.)
Best of luck with your application.
Cheers,
Burcin
