I am having some issues that has been ongoing. I have a Dell all in one purchased late last year with Dell Premium Support. I operate a Lifetime Subscription to Windows 10 Home. I have Avast Premium and Malwarebytes Premium installed. I keep getting a BSOD. The WhatsCrashed is pointing at one point to Avast. I have read online that there can be conflicts when running both Avast and Malwarebytes in conjuntion. I always have, with no issues. However, Dell is focusing on an issue being generated with Avast. I can find nothing online about how Avast is the issue. I have two Acer, Windows 10 Home, using the same paid for subscriptions of Avast and Malwarebytes with no issues. I know Avast covers virus, and I know what Malwarebytes covers. How is there a possible conflict. I am attaching screenshots. Dell is saying to uninstall Avast. Any ideas? Also, the BSOD points to Windows issues as well as Wifi drivers. All have been addressed. Again, no issues with the same things on my other two systems.

I have had Real Time turned off. So, I looked at your link. I have a paid subscription to Avast Premium. I also have a paid subscription for Malwarebytes Premium. The link you sent me to pretty much tells me and others that one can not run an antivirus and malwarebytes at the same time. Both cover different aspects of the web protection and such. So, one has to make a choice? Run a program for virus or run a program for Malware......one or the other. This is sad and it is sad there are conflicts that can not be ironed out.

I and a few hundred of my clients use Windows Defender active with Malwarebytes with no issues and no infections, I would know because I offer those clients free cleaning and not one has had an issue.

Okay, I have suspended Avast and simply am running Windows Defender and Malewarebytes. Will update if any other issues arise. It is amazing when I put into search "Avast conflict" & then "Avast" nothing came up in the search on the forums.

I toggled that to the left as shown in the screen shot and highlighted. Please note the warning I received as well that is highlighted in the upper right corner. Is this normal and do I have virus protection?

Yup I saw that. Have you asked if the people if they did what suggested above? It made my life easier since I did it. Keeps the 2 programs fighting with each other since they are on each programs ignore list.

Some times it does not work. Although Malwarebytes does try to maintain compatibility, Malwarebytes is an AV replacement in Microsoft's eyes thus lets Malwarebytes register in the Windows security center. Which will actually turn off Windows Defender unless a switch is turned off in Malwarebytes.

@AdvancedSetup Thank you for the quick reply. I want to confirm what I called Adware is the correct description. When I opened Chrome browser a 2nd browser window opened automatically with the same website for marijuana products. There were no other visible ads popping up anywhere. Should malwarebytes blocked such an event from happening? If not should a full custom scan with malwarebytes find whatever malware caused this extra browser window to open?

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

I completed Chrome syncing steps on affected win10 computer and unaffected win10 computer and android. For extra measure on the affected computer cleared all browsing data. Malwarebytes paid premium 4.0 was run on both pc's and nothing malicious was detected.

I turned sync on for all devices and the extra chrome browser window no longer opens on the affected computer to the marijuana website. I ran Malwarebytes threat scan on affected pc and nothing malicious was found.

Ran FRST, and Avast Behavior shield flagged the .exe and quarantined it. This was the same .exe I ran yesterday without issue and attached previous .txt file. I attached screenshot from avast. I emptied quarantine and downloaded frst.exe again and this time Windows smartscreen wouldn't let me run it. I attached smartscreen screenshot. I'm not too excited to download or run that .exe again so I wont for now.

Given the extra chrome browser window doesnt pop up any longer and neither malwarebytes or adwcleaner find anything wrong is it pretty safe to assume problem resolved? If so I think Ill take advice to use malwarebytes browser guard and also from another thread I was reading to use Firefox instead. What are your thoughts?

Yes, FRST is a "suspicious" file to security software. The tool is not signed and gets updated every day so different AV companies will flag it from time to time including ours due to behavior analysis.

Your Event Logs are showing issues with some of your built-in Lenovo software. It might have been due to our scanning or something like that. Do a couple reboots and see if any new errors crop up. If they do then you'd need to investigate and see if you can correct.

@AdvancedSetup It appears things are back to normal since and the popup chrome browser window is no longer occurring. I'd say the first steps of stopping Chrome sync and clearing all browsing data fixed the issue. Going forward I'll have malwarebytes browser guard installed in Chrome to hopefully block these types of popups and will likely install Firefox after reading its a suggested browser over Chrome in a pinned forum topic. As a bonus I also have adwcleaner installed in case something bad still comes through. I also followed your pinned post about setting malwarebytes file/folder exclusions in Avast. Oh yes! I use Keypass with a 25 character master password.

Great, sounds good. Yes, if you read the pinned article I think you're referencing (the automated closing speech will link to it as well) you'll see that it is recommended to stop using Google Chrome, but that's up to you. There is also a link about key transformation for Keepass (I have a 36 character master and it takes about 4 seconds to open/save my database on a high-end computer) LOL

Anyways, bookmark the link and read, review as you have time. No rush to read it all at once but view some of the video links as well. It will help you learn more about how to protect your data and privacy in a world where it becomes harder by the day to protect both. Don't forget data backups as well, also mentioned in the article.

I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I'm having problems terminating the Malwarebytes Premium Free Trial. I've been using the ordinary Malwarebytes for a long time, but when I was offered a free trial of the Premium version, I accepted it - mind you it didn't seem to have a way of declining it so I was stuck with the "offer" on my screen. The trouble is Premium gets in the way for about half an hour when I boot up, and there doesn't seem to be a way of stopping it, so eventually I was looking forward to going back to the old version. However, no such luck. As soon as the free trial ended it was back to the "offer", so I have just come to the end of two of these trials. So far, no third offer, but Malwarebytes is still showing as Premium Trial so maybe that is about to hit me. When I opened Malwarebytes to take a look, it went straight into scanning, so it seems to have a mind of its own.

First thing I would do, is uninstall malwarebytes.... then run CCleaner as a normal "cleaner" then use the Reg Cleaner option to clean the registry of any "sneaky odd bits" that malwarebytes has left behind.

then,... download the "free" version and install it ,....if you must... Personally, I would only install it, if I thought there was something that was affecting something else.... and malwarebytes may be able to clear it or, at least , point to it.
