I've never been in this position before: how much would you charge to read the entire parsha, given the five days lead time we have before B'haalotcha? It's for a school group doing a weekend retreat at a summer camp. I have friends affiliated with the camp but no real connection to the place or to the school, I just live close enough that I am a reasonable option (the package includes lodging and shabbat meals too, for what it's worth) -- at least between me and my wife and a trusty set of hand signals.

I was paid 10+ years ago 150/week. Adjust with inflation maybe 200?

Hola from Miami!

Thnx for the email. It really varies quite a bit from place to place. I've been laining at my shul for the past 30 plus years and getting around $150, of which I give $25 back to my shul to cover pledges, dues, etc. However, I know of shuls that pay $200 or even a tad more for the entire parsha.

Btw, are you related to the Klionskis who had a summer home by the Finger Lakes in NY State?
So many fond memories from them and those amazing summer experiences there!

Kol tov & best of mazel with the laining!  It's an awesome parsha - aren't they all!

Bergen County, NJ, here. A shul in Fair Lawn was offering $300/week for a regular BK. I get $250 in Teaneck. (It’s not my shul—I daven somewhere else first.)

They are taking you away from your life for an entire Shabbat. Of course they need to accommodate you. I’d say you can ask for $250-$300.

Just curious, do most shuls pay the regular baal koreh even if the ba'al koreh is a regular mispalel at the shul?

My experience: 0 pay for adults/ba'alabatim, pay for 13-25 to motivate them to do it.
