I just received an e-mail from Davka, sellers of DavkaWriter,  indicating that they will close at the end of this months, after 35 years.

What other alternatives exists that support trope?  Is Dagesh still being maintained?  I know one that one member of this group still used it on Windows XP, for which Microsoft is no longer issuing security patches.

Has anyone used Microsoft Word with the Hebrew Language pack?  Does it support trope?  Is the text of the Tanakh available?

Thanks in advance for all recommendations.

I have used MS Word for the past several years for advanced Hebrew typesetting. Just note that not all fonts support trope, though you can easily download fonts which do support it.

Is there a "text library" (Davka's term) that contains texts such as the Tanakh with trope?  Or do you know of such texts on the Internet that can be edited with MS Word?

Oh -- thank you!

I use Mechon Mamre and copy/paste. It’s not perfect, but it works.

What is the problem here? Even after Davka closes business and no longer sells the software, your DavkaWriter will still work. You can still enter text and edit test with nikkud and trope, and you can still use the text libraries built in to DavkaWriter and Davka Dimensions. So if you already own this software there is no problem. And if you do not own it, now (while they are still in business) would be the time to purchase it.

For now. But will it still work after the next version of Windows comes out?

Just received an e-mail with the following information:

"Davka products will return under new ownership and management in mid-January, with the same dedicated service and support that you have been accustomed to in the past."
Sorry for any concern that my original post might have caused.
