I would like to start by thanking you for the great product you have developed. As a result of using mp3tag, I have a much more enjoyable experience while listening to music. However, I do have a blind spot as it pertains to my karaoke files. Let me explain, given a Karaoke file pair kfile.mp3 and kfile.cdg, I can manipulate the tags of the mp3 file as needed, but when it comes time to rename the file through Convert/Tag - Filename, mp3tag is only capable of renaming the mp3 file.
Ask #1
Can you consider enhancing the Convert/Tag-FileName function to include the option to also rename CDG files if found. This will help Karaoke file owners maintain naming convention across CDG and MP3 files.
Ask #2
Can you consider enhancing the Move file function to include the option to also move matching CDG files if found. This will help Karaoke file owners moving pairs of files to folders from mp3tag.
Thanks for the clarification!!!!!
I have validated the feature is already in mp3tag when working with mp3 and cdg files. However wma and cdg file pairs are not supported. If I may modify may previous ask to include support for WMA and CDG files.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A KAR file is a regular MIDI file (specifically a type 1 file with multiple instruments), except that the way that lyrics are stored varies slightly from regular MIDI files. It's been awhile since I worked with KAR, but IIRC the lyrics are stored as meta text events (type 0x01) instead of lyrics events (type 0x05). However, KAR also uses text events for the title/artist/etc, though those are generally prefixed with an '@' character.
A MIDI file's format is pretty well standardized and documented. Wikipedia does not give a link to it, but I remember finding it on the net a good 10 years ago (before even Google was born!), so I don't expect you'll have problems in locating it today.
The format is "chunked", which means that the Karaoke information is most likely stored in a special kind of chunk. The rest is reverse-engineering. Take a karaoke file (.kar, as I understand, is a .mid with lyrics chunks), discard the known chunks and you'll soon find the lyrics chunks. The information in there should not be too hard to decypher.
I have an elderly singer coming in to make an album and the only way he can sing the song is with the karaoke lyrics so he can see the words and get the timing. I have lots of karaoke mp3 files files complete with the cdg files for the lyrics. Is there any way I can get them working in cubase 6? Or can anyone give me a work-around.
This is for mac users. There is an app called Smart Converter (free) that will convert the cdg file into a movie file. The only problem is that it converts the frames per second to 300. To overcome this put the converted file through quicktime and reduce it to say 25 fps. When importing into cubase select the new frame rate in project set-up then set up a video track and run it with the mp3 audio file.
MP3+G was first called MM+G in combination of various audio formats synchronized to a CDG file. MP3 and WMA became the most popular audio format used for karaoke and therefore MP3+G and WMA+G became the most popular formats used. Microsoft first unofficially adopted the WMA+G for use on the Xbox for the Xbox karaoke product.
Other products have found a new way to transport the MP3+G pair of files by "zipping" them. A zip file is a data compression format used to compress and contain files together. Containing the MP3+G file pair in the ZIP became known as an "MP3+G Zipped".
Since the creation of the format the technology of MP3+G was first licensed as the Breeze engine by Tricerasoft. It was later released as a codec engine technology to various computer software companies, including TouchPoint, PCDJ, DJPower, Alcatech, Hercules, and AVA Systems.
MP3+G is derived from the CD+G format and the CD+G disc format invented by Philips. MP3+G is created by extracting the CD-Audio packets from the CD+G disc with a CD-ROM drive that is capable of also extracting the RW channels from the disc. The digital audio portion is compressed to MP3 and the RW Channels (CD+G graphics) are stored to a CDG file. The player products read each file and synchronize the information to display the interpreted graphics along with the music.
